Hans Karl Juergens of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the ripe old age of 95 years. He was born in March of 1926 in Soltau, Germany to Carl and Marie Juergens. He was predeceased by his younger brothers, Helmuth and Horst Juergens, and half-sister, Marga Lindhorst.
Hans met Hanna Ruth Hopp in Munster, Germany and they were married in December of 1950, celebrating 71 years of marriage this year. They had their first child, Heike, in November of 1951. Hans preceded Hanna and daughter Heike to Canada in 1954 to find a job and build a home for his young family. Heike and Hanna followed in 1955 to make their new home in Edmonton. Their son, Hans Charles “Chuck” Juergens, was born in January of 1957 into their forever home in the Cloverdale community in Edmonton’s river valley.
Hans worked for Canadian Industries Limited (CIL) as a control operator and steam engineer for over 30 years until his retirement. He and his family loved their annual camping trips to the Okanagan where they tented in the orchards of Helmuth’s wife Hilda’s family, the Franks. Hans and Hanna were also very fond of their trips to Hawaii. Hans enjoyed his daily walks and his handyman work doing renovations on the family home.
Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance to Hans and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. He leaves behind Heike Juergens (Bruce Baugh); grandchildren, Aaron Baugh (Kim Heron); great-grandchildren, Edith and Lauren Baugh (Murdoch Taylor); great-grandchild Oliver. Also, Chuck Juergens (Wendy Juergens); grandchildren, Laine Juergens (Katie Wallace) and Michela Juergens (Derek Thorogood).
No formal service will be held at this time as the family intends to have a celebration of life later in the summer. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so to the charity of their choice in Hans’s name.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Hans Karl Juergens 2021..
