Gwendolyn Mary Catherine Williams (nee Laporte) passed at home the way she wished — in her own bed. In the home she loved in the Blue Mountains, Ontario. With her loving family by her side hugging, praying, and crying. Daughters Jennifer, Alison, and Jaime. Grandchildren Adeline, Olwyn and Rémy. Sister Sandra Mulvihill. Son-in-laws Gabriel Martin and Paul DeYoung. And Paul, her loving partner for 45 years.
Gwen was born on November 6, 1947, in Renfrew, Ontario to parents Ernest and Grace Laporte. The second youngest of six, she is survived by John, Sandra, Brenda, Jane, and Debi. In 1976, she moved to Toronto where she met Paul and they fell in love. In 2015, Gwen and Paul moved permanently to Blue Mountains.
Her greatest joy was making life. Gwen loved being a Mum and a grandmother. And this wonderful, beautiful woman was well loved by her large extended family and circle of friends. In her last days with her family, she made cookies, played monopoly, and passed out birthday gifts to the grandchildren.
Determined to keep her family together after the death of her Mother in 1981, Gwen organized countless family reunions at the family’s Blue Mountain chalet. They were the best of times.
Gwen felt close to God skiing the Blackcomb Glacier. Or watching sunsets over Georgian Bay.
She loved her dog, Sadie.
The family is inviting family and friends to remember Gwen at a special reception to be held at the Alpine Ski Club in Blue Mountains on Friday, November 19th, 4 to 7 p.m. with remembrance remarks at sunset. The family is asking that all guests review covid regulations and pre register online using the RSVP system.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation or My Friends House in Collingwood.
