Obituary of GREGORY MICHAEL KIBSEY
GREGORY KIBSEY
September 1st, 1944 to December 1st 2021
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Gregory Michael Kibsey, loving husband, father, and Gigi.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Kathryn; daughters Nicole (Kurt), Vanessa (Kyle) and Colette (Bernie); grandchildren Natasha, Seth, Skye, Brieanna, Julian, and Celina; mother-in-law Jean, and brother-in-law Colin (Lori). Greg also leaves his sister Marie and her children Darwin (Marion, Rebecca), Douglas; brother John (Bev) and their children Andrew and Karen (Bob). Greg was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Anna Kibsey.
Greg was born and raised in Poplarfield, Manitoba. A true country boy at heart, he spent his younger years helping out on the family farm or roaming the vast lands beyond. He attended Wheathill School and graduated from Poplarfield Collegiate in 1963. While attending Poplarfield Collegiate, he developed a passion for maths and science, which led him to complete a Bachelor of Science degree at United College in 1967. Afterward, he pursued a profession in teaching, and went on to graduate from the Faculty of Education in 1970. Greg’s teaching career began at Arborg Collegiate (1967 -69), and he then went on to teach at Emerson Collegiate for one year. The remainder of his career was spent in the River East School Division until retirement. He continued as a substitute teacher until March of 2020 in the Louis Riel School Division.
Greg had many pastimes, which included golfing, camping, wine, and beer making, landscaping, and gardening. He had an innate desire for athleticism and spontaneity. We will always remember the time he went to watch his daughters run a half-marathon, but ended up stepping in and running it himself as one of them had sustained an injury. We were bewildered to see that he ran this race without any training whatsoever.
In 1993, Kathryn and Greg formulated the blueprints for their forever home, nestled next door to Jean and Ken, his mother-and father in-law. Watching boxing, football, history shows, and documentaries were his diversions when he’d finally sit down and enjoy the inside comforts of this country home. Greg was surrounded by many friends and family members, who enjoyed his company, humour, and knowledge. He was passionate about sharing his wisdom with his grandchildren, who are his legacy. Spending time with them was his purpose. Greg was looking forward to the upcoming family celebrations, as December held many of them. As per Greg’s wishes, cremation and a family gathering has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christmas Cheer Board.

I wish we could have you still.
