Glenn Jean-Baptiste Jourdain Friday July 16th 2021

On Friday, July 16, 2021, surrounded by his family, Glenn Jean-Baptise Jourdain was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Glenn was born May 10, 1940 to Sam and Maggie Jourdain (Godin) at their home on Couchiching Indian Reserve by two mid-wives who he always spoke fondly about. On October 3, 1964 he was united in marriage to Genevieve Perreault. Together at Couchiching, they raised four children, celebrated the births of six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and suffered a great loss of one grandchild.
A devoted man to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Glenn could always be found in the basement setting up for a funeral, cleaning, or working on the history of Couchiching and its members. Many people sought him out there for a cup of coffee, a chat or a word of advice.
Glenn was an active person, devoted to the community, and preferring to give rather than receive. He was one of the founding members of the reserve’s Volunteer Fire Dept. and “put out fires” for forty-two years.
He served on the Band Council for eleven years, and with the Fire Department he was instrumental in starting the gas and convenience store which later became CC Complex. He was Chairperson of ONIMIS Inc. which
was formed to restore Our Lady of Lourdes Church, was an original member of the Pastoral Council of the Church for thirty years, but his greatest passion began at age 50 when he began researching the history of his own family, and then the history of Couchiching, and assisting the people of Treaty #3 to find their “roots” right up until his final days. Glenn also was an avid golfer and walker. He proudly received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Glenn proudly served the area reserves as the Fire Prevention Officer for thirty-four years until he retired in 2007.
Glenn was a survivor of the Residential School system. He attended St. Marguerite’s Indian Residential School located on the Agency 1 Indian land from the age of 8 until he was 14 years of age. He was then sent to
attend the residential school in Spanish, Ontario for grades 9 and 10. Glenn spent 9 years in these schools before he returned home to stay.
Glenn leaves behind to mourn his loss, his wife Genevieve, children Curtis, Connie (Darcy) Foster, Sandra (Edwin) Bruyere, and Christine (Nathan) Bruyere; his grandchildren Joshua Jourdain, Darren (Alice)
Foster, Carly (Dakota) Kavanaugh, Lucas (Leighia Ann) Jourdain, and Travis Bruyere; his great granddaughters Genevieve and Ava Foster; his sisters Judy Perreault and Verna Raffen; brother Raymond; sisters-in-law Pauline Perreault and Annabelle Jourdain; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Glenn joins in heaven his mother and father Sam and Maggie (Godin); brothers William, Riley, and Russell; sisters Josephine Bruyere and Linda Morrisseau; granddaughter Katie Jourdain; father and mother-in-law George and Therese Perreault (Blackbird); brothers-in-law Douglas Perreault, Wilf Morrisseau, Dennis “Spig” Perreault, Greg Perreault, Raymond “Duke” Bruyere, and Wayne Raffen; and sisters-in-law Josie and Mary Jourdain.
Cremation has taken place and Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery. Father Gino Mathias will officiate.
The honourary pallbearers will be his 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
« The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake. Even though Iwalk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with
oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. »
Worry no more! Soar like an eagle!
