Glenda’s Obituary
Glenda Elaine Radbourne long time resident of Manning, Alberta passed away on September 19, 2021, at the age of 64. Glenda was born in Rainy River, Ontario on September 30, 1956, to Anna and Allan LaRocque. She was the youngest of 6 children and grew up on the family farm near Stratton, Ontario. Glenda met the love of her life Allan Radbourne in Emo, Ontario in 1972 at 16 years of age and they got married January 17, 1975. They had 2 daughters while living in Ontario but decided to move west to pursue better job opportunities. They moved to Manning, Alberta in June 1979 where they had their third daughter in July 1979 which completed their family.
Glenda raised her family at home and babysat numerous children from the surrounding area. In 1986 she attended Fairview College for a secretarial course. She was first introduced to the Alberta Forestry while doing her practicum for school. She was hired as a seasonal warehouse employee in 1987 where she was responsible for making sure the equipment for fires was managed and maintained. When the Manning warehouse was closed, she became the Patrol person for the Peace region providing fire permits to anyone requiring them. She also worked on forest fires throughout Alberta as a Camp Manager, Staging Area Manager, Logistics Section Chief 2. While working for Forestry she met lots of lifelong friends along the way.
Glenda was conned into raising cattle by her husband who had a passion and goal of retiring as a farmer. They bought their wonderful border collie Lady who became their lifelong companion. Glenda and Al ran about 150 head of cattle which kept them busy throughout the years. She was well known by name at the Grimshaw emergency room due to her many misadventures. Also, her birthday presents were legendary where they always revolved around farm equipment. Who wouldn’t want a giant blue disc for their birthday including the added bonus of having to stop traffic on the Dunvegan bridge to get it across.
Glenda was known by many names Glenda, Glennie, Gracie, but mostly important was GG (Grandma Glenda). In August 2011, Glenda became a grandma for the first time and found that this was her greatest joy. In April 2013, she became the proud grandma to twin girls. In 2016 and 2018 two more granddaughters were added to the family. Glenda’s grandchildren were so special to her, and she always made time to spend with them and do sleepovers. Her life revolved around spending time with her girls.
Glenda’s husband Al passed away in April 2013. She spent the time since his passing working for Forestry, maintaining her yard, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Glenda will be remembered as a feisty, no nonsense, tell it like it is lady who had a heart of gold and wanted to make sure that everyone she cared about was taken care of. She could find or source any item you were looking for in her travels around the Peace country area.
Glenda leaves behind her daughters, Jennifer (Doug Wood) Radbourne, April (Garrit) Doll and Brandi (Stephen) Carter. Her 5 granddaughters who were her world Olivia, Natalie, and Rebecca Doll along with Savannah and Autumn Carter.
