It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gladys Richmond. She is pre-deceased by husband Tom, daughter Patricia and son-in-law John and is survived by children Derek (Zina) and Alison; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One of 5 siblings, Gladys was born in Detroit, Michigan, USA, where she resided for her first 11 years and then raised in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, where her family farmed near Tandragee and where she attended Portadown High School. Gladys joined the WAFs at the outbreak of WW11 and was relocated to Scotland, where she became Sergeant Sinton, Spitfire Master Mechanic, and where she met Officer Tom Richmond, her future husband. Early married life was spent in Liverpool, Tom’s hometown, before moving to Cheshire.
In later life Gladys and Tom spent time in the US, then moved to Canada, where their children had settled.
Gladys will be remembered for her unfailing enthusiasm to try new things, her wit and skill of story-telling, and her irrepressible desire to be behind the wheel of her car. Her active life saw her live in many places and led to her being affectionately nicknamed « the gypsy ». She was a talented dressmaker, painter, and avid reader; she loved chocolate and delighted in canine companions.
For the last few years of her life, Gladys lived close to daughter, Alison, at Parkview Place, Enderby, British Columbia, where she was a much-loved resident, known as ‘Jo’ to the residents and staff.
Gladys will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Gladys Richmond nee Sinton November 10th 2021..
