Gladys Ella Kopecky Liner was born in El Campo, Texas on June 26th, 1925. Her father was Czechoslovakian and her mother German. Gladys’s grandfather had come to the United States as a stowaway on a ship years earlier. She lived with her parents and two sisters in Houston, Texas most of her growing up years. Gladys excelled at school. It was one of her chief joys in life. She was on an award-winning debate team in High School and graduated with high honors.
Gladys made a life-changing decision and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour while attending Sunday School at the local Baptist church. The Sunday School teacher would regularly, with tears, explain to his class how Jesus had suffered and died for each persons’ sins and the Lord Jesus drew Gladys to Himself. He never let go of her. She loved her Saviour dearly.
Gladys met her future husband, Bill Liner, Jr., through the youth group held in that small Baptist church. They were married on September 2nd, 1945. They both enrolled in Baylor University where Gladys took courses in the hope of becoming a school teacher like her father. However, due to short finances and an impending baby, Joellen, Gladys chose rather to discontinue her courses and instead became Bill’s tutor. Their first daughter, Joellen, was born in 1948 followed by Becky, 1950, Saralie, 1952 and Mary, 1954. In 1957 the family left Houston, Texas and moved to Three Hills, Alberta. Bill served as a missionary with the Japan Evangelical Mission. Gladys was his secretary and a wonderful mother to her four little girls.
Gladys is predeceased by her both her parents and two sisters, as well as by her husband, Bill, in 2013. She is survived by her four daughters, Joellen (Stuart) Rempel, Becky (Doug) Brotnov, Saralie Liner and Mary Liner. Saralie and Mary would love to be here today but due to COVID restrictions are unable to attend. Gladys is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She passed away peacefully at the Valleyview Long Term Facility on January 15th, 2021 at the age of 95.
