Gladys was born in Dorking, a district of Surrey England, to John and Matilda Elliott. In 1943, she married Robert Thomas Cumpstone and came to Canada as a war bride at the end of WWII. The family moved to the Cowichan Valley in 1967.
Gladys is predeceased by her husband Tom, her siblings John, Jim, Joyce, and Joan of England and is survived by her six children Geoffrey, Terry (Edith), Linda (Mike), Robert (Rosemary), Kathi (Rick), Patricia (Robert). She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews in England.
In her younger years, Gladys loved gardening, knitting, camping, travelling and was a member of a 10-pin bowling league. Later in life, she enjoyed raising chihuahuas and cocker spaniels and watching golf and the home shopping channel.
Many thanks to the wonderful and caring staff of Cairnsmore Place and to Dr. Robinson and Dr. Gilbert for their care of Mum over the years.
As per Gladys’ wishes, there will be no service.
