Robert Girard
December 1935 – March 2021
It is with heavy hearts, and a deep sense of sorrow and loss, that our family announces the peaceful passing of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Robert Girard on March 1, 2021 at the age of 85.
Robert was born the oldest of six children to Eugene Girard and Jeanne D’Arc Boucher. He was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Jeanne D’Arc, and brother Gilbert. Robert is lovingly remembered by his wife Trudie, of nearly 59 years, and his three children Ronald (Rhonda) Girard, Lise (Michael) Paradis, and Wayne (Candyce) Girard. He is also remembered by his grandchildren Rory and Dana Girard, Tyler and Kaila Paradis, and Alex and Alysza Girard, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. Robert is survived by his brother Paul (Jeanette) Girard, and sisters Yvonne Schopff, Denise (Boyd) Aitkin, and Carmen (Jacques) Perron.
Robert lived an admirable life that was both dynamic and diverse. He spent his early years in Girouxville, Alberta where his family farmed for many years. After high school graduation, he wanted to continue with this occupation. Robert decided to go to Fairview College and receive his Agricultural Diploma. Shortly afterwards, he married the love of his life Trudie (Nolette) on November 24, 1962, and collectively they worked together to raise their family in a home that was filled with love, spirituality and a belief in a strong work ethic.
To supplement his income in order to get his farming operation started he constructed the Girouxville North Mutual Telephone Line and was linesman for approximately 12 years. During his farming career, of over 40 years, Robert and his wife also became rental property owners. Robert also found time to be an active member with the Alberta Agricultural Development Committee, Farm Adjustment Committee, and Farm Debt Review Board, as well as the Credit Union Board, Alberta Wheat Advisory Board, UFA, and was also Director & President for Agricultural Society. Robert was a
person who was always looking for new challenges in life and expanding his knowledge. With more than 30 years of project coordination experience in the farming and financial industry, he demonstrated throughout those years effective leadership, communication, and resolved many issues.
In his leisure time, Robert enjoyed travelling, skiing, fishing, camping, carpentry, reading, listening to music, taking walks in nature with his grandchildren, and generally spending quality time with his family.
Dearest Robert, we are so grateful and blessed to have had you in our lives as a spouse, a father, a grandfather, and as a friend. Rest peacefully in the comfort of the Lord, and your loved ones who have passed. We love you with an everlasting love.
Robert’s family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of the Westview Homecare staff for their compassion and thoughtful care. We also express gratitude for all others who showed kindness through thoughts, words, and deeds.
Cremation has taken place, and interment will follow at a later date. Furthermore, a private celebration of life is to be planned at a future time, due to present circumstances.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Women’s Shelter of your choice in Robert’s name.
I’ve planted many a kernel of wheat, welcomed many a morning sun.
I’ve eaten a dust and tasted the wind, and I’ve gotten a many a good job done.
I’ve climbed off the tractor with dirt on my face, and pain in my weary bones.
But somehow, I always can master a grin, when I see the light of home.
Where my family waits, and the love of my life, sets a table fit for a king.
With her smile, and a hug, and a good cup of tea, I know I have everything.
As I trudge once more through the field of my years, and separate the chaff from the grain,
I thank the good Lord, I can say in my heart that I’d do it all over again.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Girard Robert March 1 2021..
