Gerald ‘Jerry’ Munro
1947-2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald
« Jerry » Hugh Munro announce his sudden passing of natural
causes in his home on March 25th, 2021.
Jerry was born July 10th, 1947. He was the son of the late
William and Marjorie (Taylor) Munro. Jerry graduated from
New Glasgow High School. He was a proud alumnus of Mount Allison
University and Dalhousie University. He was very proud of all of his
accolades and education. Jerry thoroughly enjoyed his work
as an exploration geologist in South America and Northern Canada. His
enthusiasm for learning and quest for adventure brought him all around
the world. Greece held a very special place in his heart and for a
time it was his second home to Nova Scotia. Jerry maintained his
worldwide friendships and spoke of returning to those islands off the
coast of Greece again.
Jerry was sincere, compassionate, and kind. He was a man of
many interests including reading, antiques, and genealogy. He was very
helpful and always ready at a moment’s notice to go on a
road trip seeking antiques for friends. Jerry was an active and
devoted member to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in New
Glasgow. He valued his church community and all of those who he met
and got to know during his time in the
church.
The most important thing to Jerry was family. He loved being
Uncle Jerry. He was a loyal friend to many and dedicated his time to
others. Jerry was hands down the best visitor. When others
had good intentions to drop by to brighten someone’s day he
was the one that always showed up. Anyone who knew Jerry will cherish
his incredible stories – he was the consummate storyteller. Jerry
enjoyed visiting his Clyburn relatives both locally and in Cape Breton
especially enjoying lobster parties and home cooked meals. Everyone
was blessed to have Jerry in their lives.
Jerry will be sadly missed by nephews: William (Bev) Wilson,
John (Brenda) Wilson, nieces: Marjorie (Paul) Goodkey, Cathy Wilson
(Wayne Burns); special cousin: Mildred Rae; birth brothers and
sisters: Diana (Clarence) Fraser, Robert (Sandra) Johnson, Barbara
(Francis) Allison, Wayne Perry, and Margie (Everett) Cann; and many
nieces, nephews, and cousins that meant the world to
him.
Along with his parents Jerry was predeceased by his beloved
sister, Beverly Wilson and her husband, Wilbert Wilson with whom Jerry
shared a close lifelong wonderful relationship. He was also
predeceased by birth sister, Thelma Elizabeth « Beth »
Cunningham and brother, William « Billy »
Perry.
Jerry valued the simple pleasures and didn’t need
much to enjoy his life to the fullest. He valued his family, and
friends above everything else. A private funeral service will take
place on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 2pm at St. Andrew’s
Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow, officiated by Reverend Dr. Joon-Ki
Kim. The service will be livestreamed, link available
below.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s
Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow or a charity of one’s
choice. To honour Jerry’s memory, follow through on a visit
to family or friends when you can and tell a really great story.
Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New
Glasgow.
