Georgina Elizabeth Cross
Louisbourg
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Georgina Elizabeth Cross, announce her passing on the evening of Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the Northside Community Guest Home after a lengthy journey with dementia.
Georgina, the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth MacVicar, was born on October 15,1934. She grew up, married, and raised her family in Louisbourg while working at National Sea Products Louisbourg Division.
In her younger years, Georgina was happiest when she was camping in the trailer or trying her luck at a game of forty-fives or bingo. She loved nothing more than the thrill of hunting for treasures at yard sales and the flea market. She also loved travelling and always enjoyed her trips to Florida, as well as visiting relatives and friends in Lunenburg, Newfoundland and Portugal. Although Georgina had lots of hobbies, the thing she looked forward to most was when her six grandchildren would come for sleepovers on the weekend.
Georgina was a devoted member of First United Church in Louisbourg and the church choir. Her love of music and singing brought her such joy.
In May2019, Georgina went to live at the Northside Community Guest Home, where she was cared for by the wonderful staff at the MacEachern Unit and Teresa Terrace. Our family will be forever grateful to all of the devoted staff who cared for our mother with such understanding, compassion and kindness.
Georgina is survived by her sons, Richard Brian (Joanne) and Darrell (Cathy), and her six beautiful grandchildren who meant the world to her; granddaughters, Emma(Michael) Spawn and Elizabeth (Coady) Slaunwhite; grandsons, Edward (Elizabeth MacCormick), Joseph, James and Mark. She is also a great grandmother to Ezra and Jake. Georgina is survived by her sisters, Gloria Knickle, Annie Tanner, and her brother, Duncan (Chris) MacVicar. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and cherished in-laws.
Besides her parents, Georgina was predeceased by her husband, Richard, and her dear sisters, Joyce Trimm, Margaret Wells, and Sheila Greer.
Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations in Georgina’s memory are suggested to First United Church in Louisbourg.
The world changes from year to year
Our lives from day to day
But the love and memory of you
Shall never fade away
