Georgie’s Obituary
Born March 21,1937 at home in Birchtown, Shelburne. Georgina Brown (Georgina Blagdon) many called her Georgie passed away at the age of 83 in her home on Jordan Branch Rd in Shelburne, Nova Scotia on February 4, 2021. Daughter of the late Gladys Blagdon. Brothers and sisters were Barbara Davis of Shelburne, Bob Blagdon of Montreal, Vincent Burke of Ontario, Paul Blagdon of Vancouver, Donald (Pee Wee) Blagdon of Bouctouche New Brunswick. Later Gladys married Al Burke, children Lois Burke of Bouctouche New Brunswick, Thelma Burke of United States, Al Burke( jr) of Halifax. Georgie was predeceased by husband Harry Brown, friend John Brown brothers Bob, Vincent and Al, daughters Sandra Knickle and Holly Belong. She is survived by sons Doug Brown (Bonnie Enslow) and Paul Brown of Shelburne, Grandchildren Jason Brown, Adam Brown, Ronald Belong(jr), Charlene Knickle and Andrew Knickle, several Nieces and Nephews and Great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Ava, Haley and Peter.
In Georgie’s earlier years she worked at the Oxbow Motel, Skansens Herring Plant and then finished her working days at Roseway Hospital. Georgie loved talking on the phone and even when it was about time to hang up she would find a couple more things to talk about. She had a very kind heart and never asked for much and yet she gave so much to others through simply acts of kindness. Family meals she enjoyed very much whether they were at her house or held at someone else’s she could always be found in the kitchen helping with the cooking and yes she always had to help with the clean up even if you told her to go sit down and relax she would say “No No No No”. She loved a good cook up of Corn Beef and Cabbage, Fish and Chips or Turkey dinner with all the fixings. In the mornings she often ate a couple boiled eggs, toast and sometimes bolonoga. Her favorite thing to drink was water and she enjoyed snacking on field cucumbers with vinegar and salt and loved dill pickles without garlic. Georgie loved surprised pop in visits and sitting in her chair by the window to engage in conversation. Her house was always neat and tidy and you were always greeted with the cozy warmth of her wood stove. For many years her dog Champ kept her and her friend John company and smiles on their faces. He was a big fur baby and she was always determined to take the best care of him, she enjoyed taking Champ outside to enjoy the fresh air with him. Going back a bit in time you could find Georgie with some friends at the bingo hall having a good time and many laughs. Something she always enjoyed at night as she got older was watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, House Reno shows and live music performances in both English and French. Even though she didn’t understand french she thought the music was very beautiful. While the TV was on she would snack on a few Hickory stick or plain lays chips. Georgie always loved wearing her cozy slippers, she had many of those. Getting a good fire going in the mornings, making her bed and breakfast she did every day leading up to her unexpected passing. She passed at the age of 83 and was still very much an Independent Woman. She will be greatly missed by many. She will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
In memory of her love for animals all memorial donations can be made to the Shelburne SPCA. Condolences may be left for the family at www.huskilson.net
