Passed away peacefully on February 16, 2021 at WRH Ouellette Campus at 80 years of age. Soulmate to Beverley for 63 years, married 58 years. Loving father to Shelley (Glenn Boots predeceased 2018), Michele (Gary Fera), Gay-Anne (Jonathan Dietzel), and David (Kathy Sinclair). Predeceased by father Ralph (1990), mother Shirley (1977), brothers Gerry (2003), Donald (2002), Carl (1962) and Ruth (London, Ontario). Caring grandfather to Ainslee (Justin Laframboise); Gregory, Kevin; Alex (Justin Shepley), Macy, Ella, Georgia; Andrew (Nicole Christensen), and Paige. Great-grandfather to Rowan. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Past employee of Bank of Nova Scotia (Kitchener) for ten years, Kitchener Stockyards (two years), County of Middle-Strathmere Lodge (Strathroy) for six years, and Villa Maria Home for the Aged (Windsor) for 22 years. He served on the board for Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital for several years. Recipient of Strathroy Rotary “Citizen of the Year” (1970’s) and Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association award for 20 Years or more of Distinguished Service (Amherstburg). He served on the planning board for Westview Apartments (Amherstburg) from the late 1980’s to its development. Then continued his service as the chair-person, vice-chair, and board member to present day. George was very involved with Strathroy United and Wesley United Churches, serving in many different capacities. He was an avid fan of a wide variety of sports including curling, baseball (the Blue Jays), and hockey (the Maple Leafs). He coached boys’ baseball in Amherstburg for a few years and always attended his grandchildren’s sport events.
Reservations and personal face coverings are required to attend visitation on Saturday February 20, 2021 from 2-7 pm at Families First, 585 Sandwich St. South, Amherstburg, 519-969-5841. Funeral service will be held on Sunday February 21, 2021 at 2pm at the funeral home. A livestream link to view the service from home will be available on George’s web page. A private family interment will take place at Dorchester Union Cemetery.
