The family of George Henry Gottschall regret to announce that he passed away peacefully with family at his side on September 4th, 2021.
George is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary (Murphy); his children George (Vielka), Dale (Deni), Candice (Tyler) and Christian (Ana) and his darling grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Matias, Lily, Rowan, Maddox, Emmett and step-grandson Quetzal.
George was predeceased by his parents George and Hilda Gottschall, his twin brother Gerry and father-in-law Alexander Murphy. His is also survived by his siblings William (Janet), Kenny (Ann), Helen (Louie), Diana (Alfred) and Tim (Devin); his mother-in-law Bell Murphy, brothers-in-law David (Debbie), Sandy (Jackie), Jimmy (Raylene) and sisters-in-law Sheena (Wayne Abbey) and Hilda Murphy. As well as many nieces, nephews and extended family who will miss him dearly.
George was born May 28th, 1953 and raised in Antigonish, NS. In 1977, he proudly graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He then began his business career with the Federal Business Development Bank in Sydney NS and was transferred to Whitehorse Yukon in 1988, for 4 years. Like most people, George and his family fell in love with the North and it became their “home” for the last 33 years. He continued to work in Business Development and met many people and formed many lifelong friendships along the way. During these 33 years, George had the opportunity to venture even further North with his family and live in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut and Yellowknife, NWT, but always kept his home in Whitehorse where he knew they would soon return. George spent a short time in Rankin Inlet and loved sharing the many stories of extreme cold, blinding snowstorms and a brief encounter with a polar bear. George was very proud to say he lived on both sides of this wonderful country and in all 3 territories.
A special thank you to Dr. Tadepalli for all your support in the care of our dear husband and father. We also want to thank the amazing home care nurses and staff who tended to George while he was at home, and the wonderful nurses and ward clerk at the Whitehorse General Hospital.
Last but not least, we want to thank our dear friends and family who have been so supportive throughout these difficult times. We could not have gotten through this without you.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Whitehorse on Thursday September 9th, 2021 at 2pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yukon Hospital Foundation.
