In his 88th year, George Arthur Evenden passed onwards peacefully on November 30, 2021 in a Hospice near his Wasaga Beach home with some family by his side and in their hearts. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, the late Maureen Evenden, who passed onwards earlier this year.
George grew up and spent his early life in Hamilton, Ontario. As a child, he developed a life-long Christian faith attending his father’s Parkview Mission in Hamilton. He also developed a lifelong love for sports by playing baseball and football, and continuing to cheer on his favourite teams throughout life. He enjoyed travelling, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, history, and current world events. As a passionate entrepreneur, he thrived as co-owner/ operator of London Kenworth, and a RV business in Primrose. He would also use his business talents to help shape and contribute to other companies, including Parkbridge, where he would eventually retire with many dear friends in Country Meadows, Wasaga Beach.
George was a loving and devoted husband, cherished father, and (great) grandfather, adored brother, son, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He passes on to also join loving parents, George and Miriam Evenden, sister Edith Potter, niece Sarah Potter, and grandson Taylor Nixon in heaven. He is survived by siblings Bruce Evenden (Penny) and Doreen Evenden; daughters Miriam O’Dowda (Rob), Sharon Roberts, and Debbie Nixon (Daniel Beaudoin); son-in-law Mark Roberts, grandchildren Rachel Latkolik (Peter), Stephen Roberts, Christen O’Dowda, Braden O’Dowda, and Trevor Nixon; great grandchildren Hannah and Hailey Latkolik; all his nieces and nephews; long-time friends Tim Gillies and Dave Rozycki; the Williams’ family; Beaudoin family, Webster family and countless other friends and family near and dear to his heart and memories.
Many thanks to family, friends, and neighbours who shared kindness, generosity, and support to both George and Maureen, our health care professionals, including Dr. Singh, LHIN, St. Elizabeth’s, PSW Karen, and Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood. Details for Celebration of Lives honouring George and Maureen together will soon be announced on this page. In the meantime, we encourage family and friends of George’s to share your messages, stories, adventures, pictures, and memories here on the Memory Wall. In lieu of flowers, any donations to Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation for Campbell House Hospice or Canadian Cancer Society in George Evenden’s memory is appreciated by family.
To know George was to know a hard worker, self made business man, Christian, sports enthusiast, family man, good friend, great conversationalist, kind soul and True Gentleman.
May he find everlasting peace in Heaven. We love you!
