Obituary
It’s with sadness we announce the passing of Gary Right Hand (Pokohsiksski) of Siksika Nation on Wednesday August 11, 2021 at the age of 67 years.
Gary was such a fun loving man who was friend to all, never mad at anyone. Throughout Gary’s life he worked as a carpenter, bus driver, truck driver, Siksika Public Works Sanitation, and Wolf Flats Ordinance. He had also coached South Four Seven Chief’s Hockey Team where he earned the name “Garkat” and won the city championship in 1989. Gary had coached baseball as well for Tsuut’ina. He was part of the Tsuut’ina Cowboy Society and participated in wild horse races which he also won in 1993. Until his passing, Gary was a huge part of his grandson’s hockey life. He was always so proud of them. Gary was proud to have had completed his Crusillo in 1992, his theme was “Let me walk with you Jesus”.
Gary will be lovingly remember by his wife of 49 years, Delphine; children Lee (Brenda) Dodging Horse, Genevieve (Charlie) Running Rabbit, Jill Firstrider, Whitman Dodging Horse, and Zared (Keesha) Dodging Horse. Grandchildren Xao, Yvaugh, Vance, Urijah, Tarver, Saber, Angel, Echo, Summer, River, Felicia; and his 9 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind brothers Michael Right Hand, Dean Simeon, Bev (Wayne) Leather, Richard (Florence) Right Hand, Jacob Many Heads, Marcell (Dolores) Right Hand, Gina (Lance) Flamand, and Novena (Shaun) Flynn. Traditional Family: Liz & Alvin Big Crow, Denise (Craig) Weasel Head, Yolanda Waterchief, Clifton Waterchief, Lori (Sean) Cutter, Natasha (Deon) White Man. In-laws: Marvin (Marie) Dodging Horse, Karen Dodging Horse, Cheryl Ray Dodging Horse, TJ Wadsworth, Steve Dodging Horse, Tim Dodging Horse, Billy Dodging Horse, Val Dodging Horse, Tracy Dodging Horse, Jamie (Keith) Left Hand. Best Friends: Jesse Star Light & Lorne Sampson. Godchildren: Corey John, Dion, Stephen, and Ariel. Numerous adopted nephews and nieces. Extended family: Waterchief, Many Bears, Poor Eagle, Stud Horse, Old Woman, McMaster, Spotted One, Olds.
Predeceased by his parents Georgina Many Bears and James Water Chief; son Clint Dodging Horse; brothers: Tim Spotted One, Gregory Young, Jerry Daniels, Arthur James, Water Chief; sisters: Jean Many Heads, Gail Right Hand, Deborah Spotted One, Marilyn Right Hand, Joyce Daniels, Margarita Flynn, Mildred Simeon, and Stephanie Twins. Traditional parents: Francis & Marie Waterchief.
Gary is now reunited with his best friend Buttons Dodging Horse, whom he was so mischievous with. They can continue their crazy, silly ways once again, except this time, they have Creator to keep them inline.
Gary had numerous friends and family, we apologize for anyone we may have missed.
Thank you to Tsuut’ina Home Care, Tsuut’ina Fire Dept., Dr. Peterson, Nurses and Emergency Staff at Rockyview Hospital for the care they provided to Gary.
Wake Services will be held at the residence of Delphine Right Hand (Tsuut’ina, Alberta) on Monday August 16, 2021 at 3:00pm for family; and 7:00pm at Bullhead Hall. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at Bullhead Hall on Tuesday August 17, 2021 at 12:00pm. Graveside Services to follow at the Tsuut’ina Cemetery.
