It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Gail White, wife of Roland White of Daniel Drive, which occurred on Friday April 30th, 2021, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst at the age of 74.
Born in Newcastle on August 20, 1946, she was the daughter of the late William Patrick and Zina (MacKay) Fenelon.
Gail will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, her three children: Brad (Donna Henry) of Bathurst, Randy (Ellen MacKay) of Chicago, Illinois, and Kari (Jeff Davison) of Calgary, AB, and her grandchildren: Tyler, Jeremy, Graeme, Alistair, Maddy and Nora.
Also left to cherish her memory are her six sisters: Catherine Cain (Charlie)of Boom Road, NB, Norma Richard (Keith)of Winnipeg, MB, Helena Richard (Laurie), Pam Fenelon, and Janice Fenelon all of Miramichi, NB, and Carmel Theriault (Gelas) of Baie Ste Anne, NB.
Four brothers: Patrick (Marina), Bill (Linda), and Terry (Darla) both of Miramichi, NB, and Bert of Edmonton, AB.
Along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Aloysius, and a granddaughter, Erica.
A born teacher, Gail graduated from the New Brunswick Teachers’ College in 1967 and spent the majority of her 28-year career teaching children with special needs. Oftentimes selected for challenging assignments, Gail loved teaching and believed in her students, encouraging them to be their best selves.
Gail and Roland met while teaching together and married in 1970. They loved to dance and spent many Saturday nights dancing at the Legion with friends. They put in many miles driving across the province for their sons’ hockey tournaments and there is not a rink in New Brunswick that did not hear Gail cheering them on from the stands.
Family and friends were always welcome in Gail and Roland’s home. Gail was generous and giving of her time and money to help others and offered hospitality to many family members over the years. She was a stickler for good grammar and loved reading, music, trivia, and crossword and cryptogram puzzles. More than anything Gail loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She cherished her time with them whether it was outings to Campbellton and Moncton or soaking up time with them during visits from Chicago and Calgary. At Grammie’s house, the answer was always YES.
Gail will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A funeral service will be celebrated at a later date.
Donations in memory of Gail may be made to the Breast Cancer Society, the Arthritis Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
