1941 – Gail Schmidt – 2021
“Family ties are precious threads
No matter where we roam
They draw us close to those we love
And pull our hearts toward home.”
On the afternoon of December 14th, 2021, we lost the heart of our family, Gail Schmidt of Redcliff, AB. She was predeceased by her husband, Ken, of 60 years. She is survived by her most prized possessions, her family, Sandy (Cody and Christy, Shayna, William, and Wyatt); (Kyler and Ashley, Knoxx and Jury) Moser, Penny (Trina) Schultz, Kendra and Mitch (Kelsi and Adam, Colton) Seifert, Jolaine (Jordon and Jared) Hepfner; brother, Joe (Laurie) McFadzen; brother-in-law, Dennis (Ruth) Schmidt; sister-in-law, Pat Schmidt; numerous nieces and nephews; and her favourite four-legged companion, Brewster.
While Gail was a stay at home Mom she was also the Recreation Director for the Town of Redcliff, where she planned and organized many events and trips for the town’s seniors. Once her youngest was 10, Gail took a job at the Woolworths jewelry counter which she absolutely loved. She always loved interacting with people! While working at Woolworths, she and Ken became the owner/operators of Tilden Rent a Car, which she ran for several years. Gail then went on to work at the Halfway House at the Redcliff Riverview Golf Course where she loved to visit with all the regulars and always had lunch ready for her grandsons who were working there (and they all worked there and loved having Grandma make sure they ate!!)
Gail had a great love of music and taught piano lessons for many years. She was an amazing pianist and was asked to play for several town events and functions. When her mother could no longer play the organ for St Ambrose Church, she agreed to help them out while they found a new organist and stayed playing there for 30 years! During this time she was an active member of the Redcliff Roving Choir.
Although Gail enjoyed coaching girls baseball for several years, she most loved watching her grandchildren participate in their many activities. Whether it was a dance recital or a rough hockey game she was their biggest fan.
Family truly was the most important thing to Gail. She loved them all so very much. A Private Family Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Redcliff Scholarships for Advanced Education c/o Prairie Rose Public Schools, Attention Ryan Boser, Secretary Treasurer, 918 2nd Avenue, Dunmore AB, T1B 0K3. Condolences may be sent through www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Gail Schmidt.
