Obituary of Evelyn Catherine Janes
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Evelyn Catherine Janes announces her passing on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre at the age of 81. Born in Cape Ray she was the daughter of the late Philip and Eliza (Penney) Tapp. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 60 years, Austin Janes, sisters and brothers, Clayton (Vera) Tapp, Howard (Shirley) Tapp, Gordon (Corinne) Tapp, Frank (Doreen) Pearce, Audrey (Bob) Anderson, Ivan (Marilyn) Tapp and Robert (Donna) Tapp, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Harold (Joyce) Janes, Gertie (Calvin) Rose, Doris (Hubert) Harris, Olive Janes, Nina Jeans, Samuel Gillam, large circle of nieces, nephews, friends and Godson, Colin Osmond.
Evelyn was a very active person most of her life. She loved the outdoors and spent countless hours walking, berry picking or just forever searching for apple trees. She spent many hours at her cabin in McKay’s doing just that. She worked at St. John the Evangelist School in Cape Ray for over twenty years as the Janitor/Custodian. She had a great admiration for the students and teachers during her tenure and this was some of her fondest and happiest times.
She was predeceased by baby sisters, Annie and Myrtle Tapp, mother and father in law, Elizabeth and Albert Janes, brother and sister-in-law George (Alice) Tapp, sister, Lora Jane Gillam, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond Jeans, Alex (Rita) Janes, Joseph Janes, George Janes, Kevin Wall and William Carter.
In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving family and friends on Friday, June 18th from 2:00-4:00 P.M and 7:00-9:00 P.M at Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 19th at St. John the Evangelist Church, Cape Ray at 11:00 A.M., by invite only due to COVID 19 restrictions, with Rev. Faye Coffin officiating. Interment to follow at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Cape Ray. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John The Evangelist Church or Dr. Charles L LeGrow Hospital.
