Evelyn Keyes (Russell) O’Reilly {95} passed away on August 18,2021 after a lengthy battle in Long Term Care at Northwood Centre, Halifax, NS. She was born in Nordin, NB and was the daughter of Ellis and Adavilla (Johnstone) Russell.
Evelyn had a lengthy office career serving the public and giving her opportunity to know most of the town population. After a short time with the Unemployed Insurance Commission she was then hired by W.S. Loggie Co. in Chatham and was there for 27 years. She then moved her career to the Town Hall Office in Chatham where, after 19 years service, she retired in 1991 on her 65th birthday.
Evelyn was a member of the Chatham Curling Club where she participated in her favourite sport and served as President of the club for one year. She also enjoyed going to bingo with her friends. However, with the passing of her late husband Arthur O’Reilly in 1998, she chose to move to Halifax, NS to be closer to her daughter Cynthia and grandson Aaron McLean.
She was predeceased by her sisters Edith (Russell) Wheeler of Athol, Mass.US, Mavis (Russell) Wiemerslage of Wisconsin, US, Treva (Russell) Jardine of Nordin, NB, Vera (Russell) Hanscom of Moncton, NB, Bernice (Russell) Stewart of Chatham, NB, Alma (Russell) Vautour of Newcastle, NB and brothers Ellis Russell Jr. of Nordin, NB, Hugh Russell and Stafford Russell of Newcastle, NB. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s family would like to thank all staff at Northwood Centre, Halifax, NS where she had spent the last 2 1/2 years for their endless support while facing difficulties and hardships throughout the pandemic.
Church service at St. Michael’s Basilica, Miramichi will be held on September 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in her name be made to St.Michael’s Building Fund or charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be submitted below or passed on with Maher’s Funeral at harry@mahersfh.com. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
