Evelyn Doreen Bush passed away quietly during the early morning hours on June 24, 2021 at the age of 92. One of 9 children, Doreen was born with the help of a midwife to William and Florence (Morgan) Cleary on February 10, 1929 on the family farm near Silver Park, Saskatchewan. She attended Windigo and Lucan schools and took a one-year correspondence course that allowed her to attain her grade 12 diploma. She moved to Saskatoon and went on to receive her teaching certificate through a course in Normal School. Her first and only teaching job took her to Girwood school north of Crooked River. She boarded across the road with the Sams family where she caught the eye of Clifford (Corky) Bush. After a two-year courtship, they married on July 27, 1949. Doreen gave up teaching and took up housekeeping at which she excelled for the rest of her days. Doreen and Corky raised 4 children and 9 grandchildren during the next 60+ years. Valerie Ardelle was the first to arrive on August 26, 1950. Tyrone Warren followed on January 3, 1955 and then exactly 3 years later on January 3, 1958, Ruston (Rusty) Clifford arrived. It was another 5-1/2 years before Dorian Avery was born on May 10, 1963. Unfortunately, in late January of 1970 Tyrone passed away after a brief battle with diabetes. During the early years of their marriage, they made frequent moves (many for Corky’s work were temporary) but they always kept the Tisdale/Eldersley/Crooked River districts as home base. Doreen packed school lunches for 25 years (always with the BEST homemade bread), all the while attending her children’s baseball and hockey games and she competed in many curling events in the area. She also enjoyed square dancing, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School during the summer. Air cadets and school functions were also priorities at various points in time. At one point Doreen and Corky ventured to Lloydminster, SK/AB but returned to Tisdale after about 1-1/2 years. At this time in their lives there were a few grandkids with whom they spent a lot of their free time. Doreen also took a job at the Tisdale Rec Plex working in the canteen. She enjoyed this line of work as she always enjoyed meeting and chatting with people (including the Montreal Canadiens Oldtimers). She retired from the canteen but still kept busy with a growing number of grandkids and attending a monthly supper with other retired teachers from the area. Throughout her lifetime Doreen enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. Doreen was predeceased by her parents, William & Florence Cleary, her husband Corky, son Tyrone, brothers Alfred and William (Bill), sisters Margaret, Florence, Grace, Dorothy & Kathleen. Left to cherish her memory is her sister Shirley Franklin, sister-in-law Lorraine Banks, children Val (Rob Haas), Rusty, Dorian (Pam), her 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. We will all miss her dearly.
