It is with sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Evelyn Brown, at the age of 92 years on November 27th, 2021 in Brockville, Ontario. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn O’Shaughnessy (Tom), granddaughter Madeline (Bryson Koekkoek), grandson Tim, her sister Merle Haverstock, brother Bill Brown (Jean) and nieces and nephews Barbara, Karen, David, Stephen, Derick and Susanne. Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Howden and her parents, John and Madeline Brown.
Evelyn was known for her sweet nature and love of travel and adventure. She was born on the family farm in Elgin, Quebec on February 9, 1929. She was proud to be a “Mac” girl after attending the Macdonald Institute at the University of Guelph in 1948. She later went on to attend teacher’s college at Macdonald College in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec and in her 40’s, returned to school to obtain her teaching degree at the University of Alberta. A kind and caring primary grade teacher, she was a positive influence on the lives of the many students she taught on air force bases in St. Hubert, Quebec, in Metz, France and for many years at elementary schools in Edmonton, Alberta.
Always in a beloved Volkswagen Beetle, Evelyn had many adventures with her sisters, driving across Canada and exploring Europe. Staying close to her daughter and family, Evelyn settled into homes in Edmonton, Alberta; Aylmer, Quebec; Ottawa, Oakville and finally in Brockville, Ontario. Those of us fortunate to call her Mom or Nannie will be forever grateful for the fun and adventure she created, and for her deep love that was always present. Her family would like to thank the staff at the St. Lawrence Lodge for their compassionate care.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life for family and friends will be held at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville, on Saturday, December 4th at 1:00 pm. At the request of the family, all guests will be required to provide proof of full vaccination and registration of attendance can be done online or by calling 613-342-2828.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation (Capital Equipment Campaign) will be gratefully acknowledged. RSVP online or by calling our office at 613-342-2828 between 9-4 pm. Send condolences or share a memory by clicking on the Memory Button above.
