Obituary
Ervin was born at Altona, Manitoba on October 6, 1944, the second child of David P. and Anna Loeppky. His early childhood was spent on his parents’ farm near Halbstadt, then in the Austin area for 2 years before his family moved back to Halbstadt. When his parents had an opportunity to purchase a farm in the Emmeline District near Austin, they moved their family to the farm and settled there. Ervin attended the Emmeline School, which was only a quarter of a mile from the Loeppky home. He would help with the chores every morning before heading to school for the day. Ervin attended Emmeline school for 8 years and then went on to high school in MacGregor. Ervin accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Saviour at a young age and was baptized in the MacGregor EMC church when he was in his early twenties. He graduated from Peace River Bible School in smith, Alberta following 3 years at the school. Ervin had many jobs in his life, but probably the occupation he most enjoyed was that of a heavy equipment operator. He operated a bulldozer for oil companies, housing development projects, and other construction companies. Ervin was known for his outstanding skill in preparing oil patch leases, and for his exceptional attention to detail when working on landscaping jobs. Ervin had an excellent memory and could provide very detailed instructions when giving someone directions to a specific place! He knew exactly where a fencepost indicated that one should make a left turn, and where at the next mile road there was a clump of bushes (which he could accurately describe for you), and how you would know you had arrived at the right place by landmarks he remembered. And sure enough, if you followed his directions, you had no trouble finding the right place! Ervin read many books and loved to talk about the most important book in his life, the Bible. He enjoyed family gatherings, good food, and funny stories. Some years ago, he asked his sister-in-law for detailed instructions on making the old-fashioned soups he grew up with, and proceeded to make them, too. He also made the best peach nectarine jam, which some of us have tried to duplicate, although it never tastes as good as the jam he made! Ervin spent the last 30 years of his life in Edmonton, living alone in a small apartment. He struggled with loneliness and expressed his appreciation when family members visited him and brought garden produce and homemade soup and took him shopping at Costco. The past number of years were very difficult ones for Ervin; in April of 2018 he suffered a major heart attack from which he never fully recovered. He often became short of breath and had difficulty walking for the rest of his life. On October 6, 2021 he celebrated his 77th birthday, with calls from several family members. His brother John called him every week and received emails from him regularly. When family members and a friend in Edmonton could not reach him by phone last week, they became concerned, and authorities were contacted. On Tuesday, October 26th Ervin was found to have passed away at his home, into the presence of his Lord and Saviour. Second Corinthians 5:6 -8 reassures us with these words: “Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord; (For we walk by faith, not by sight). We are confident, I say, and willing to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord”. Ervin is now at rest, his legs are fine, and his strength is renewed! Although we will miss the phone calls and conversations with him, we rejoice that he is now with the Lord, knowing that we will meet again in heaven.
Ervin was predeceased by his parents David and Anna Loeppky, one brother (Harold Loeppky) and one sister (Leona Lepine), as well as by one great-niece (Lacey Loewen).
He is survived by 2 brothers (John Loeppky and his wife June), (Edward Loeppky and his wife Marge), 2 sisters (Erma Buhler and her husband David), (Dorothy White), and by one sister-in-law (Kathy Loeppky). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The family is grateful for friends in Edmonton who cared about Ervin and spent time with him, and for all others who took an interest in his life and helped him in any way. Thank you to Clarke’s Funeral Home for graciously assisting with the arrangements.
