At the Kings
County Memorial Hospital with his wife by his side, the passing of
Ernie Butler age 85 of Montague, loving husband of 31 years to Gail (
MacCormack ) Butler, occurred on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Born
in Hamilton, ON, January 5, 1936, son of the late James
Albert and Gertrude Alma Butler. Survived by children, Paul
Butler (Karen), Sandra Bishop (Chris), Janice Butler-Scott
(Robert); step-children, Marie MacCormack (Julian) and Lisa Patterson
(Tom); mother-in-law, Mae MacCormack; nine cherished grandchildren and
close friend Sharon Forsyth. Predeceased by brother Bob Butler and
father-in-law Michael MacCormack. Ernie served as the chief of the
volunteer Fire Department in Oakville and received commendation from
the Mayor in 1976. He then served for 15 years with the Montague Fire
Department when he and Gail moved to the Island in 1991. After a 35
year career as a butcher and meat manager in Ontario with Miracle
Foodmart he retired but was called back into service at The Cloverfarm
in Oysterbed Bridge and the McPhee’s IGA. His hard
work and guidance on behalf of his family will be sorely
missed.
