Eric Malcolm Tibbetts
1959-2021
Eric Tibbetts, 61, of Murphy Lake. Dedicated husband, loving
father, thoughtful brother, savvy problem solver, cold beer drinker,
coconut cream pie lover (all things sweet as a matter of fact) and
hardworking member of his local community, passed at the Valley
Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by family on Sunday, January
31, 2021.
Eric, the youngest of seven siblings, was born in Kentville,
to parents Fred and Beatrice (Rogers) Tibbetts, and after the passing
of Beatrice, he was cared for by Mabelle Tibbetts and Nellie Wilson.
He grew up in Pereau on his family’s farm, where he
developed his tireless work ethic and a love for supporting the
community, lessons that he transferred on through his hard-working
children, employees and Tibbetts Electrical.
Eric was always a Canning boy at heart – in his
younger years, he worked on several farms, enjoyed shinny on the pond,
playing hockey, soccer, softball, and basketball, attending house
parties and driving around in his beat-up station wagon. Later in
life, his interests evolved into working on fixer-uppers, spending
time at the hunting camp with his buddies (not sure how much actual
hunting was done), sitting by the lake with a good book,
‘puttering’ around the house (which meant having
multiple projects on the go), playing cards and attending Guinness
Friday’s. He was lighthearted, fun and a party favorite
– once you saw his foot tapping, you knew he was going to be
dancing the night away.
Eric loved his children’s friends and his employees
as if they were his own, always looking for ways to foster their
confidence, build skills and never shying away from giving a
‘Tibbetts tip of the day.’ He found time to
volunteer whether it was through coaching various boys and
girl’s soccer teams or simply cheering in the stands
– he always made it a priority to be there.
His
children asked what he wanted people to know about his life. He stated
that he lived a simple, happy and honest life – expressing
his gratitude for the love he shared with his wife and his two
children. He stated that he had been lucky enough to marry his best
friend of 41 years and together they built a successful business and
their forever home at Murphy Lake, where they have spent much of their
time.
Eric is survived by his wife, Dawna (Keizer); their children,
Jordan Tibbetts Kentville; Nicole Tibbetts (Dylan Troop) New Minas;
three sisters, Doris (Don) Millett, Habitant; Sandra (Gord) Crutcher,
Thornhill, ON; Ellen Smith, Newport; and a brother, Ken (Faye)
Tibbetts, Plamondon, AB; nieces and nephews. In addition to his
parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Wanda (Harris) Tibbetts and a
brother, Laurie (Debbie) Tibbetts.
After the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions are
lifted, Eric envisioned a gathering of family and friends, to
celebrate his life while having a cold one and reminiscing on all of
the good times.

Goodbyes are hard
to say, so instead we will say ‘see you later.’
You have been a wonderful husband, father, friend and mentor. All of
our lives have been better in simply knowing you.
