Obituary
Passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer, Eric Howlett, aged 70 years. Predeceased by his mother and father, Lucy and Gerald Howlett; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joan and Leo Mackey; brothers-in-law, John Flynn, Bob Mackey, Garry Mackey and Gerald Newell.
Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife Alice (Mackey) of 46 years; sons Jason (Danielle), special grand-daughter Emily Madden, Ontario and Nicholas, Australia; Brothers and Sisters, Doni (Gerri), Jenny, Ken (Linda), Theresa (Terry) Bennett, Verna Flynn, Winnie (Peter) Sears, Gerry (Leslie), and Denise; Brothers and Sister-in laws, Doris Mackey, Geraldine (Wins) Howell, Carol (Howard) Slade, John (Pat), Philomena (Phil) Kavanagh, Dianne (Jimmy) Clements, Linda Newell (Wally), Mike (Lisa), special niece Charlene Mackey as well as many nieces and nephews.
Eric leaves many friends – his best friend and hunting buddy, Paul Ruby; his card buddies, Art, Ed, Randy and Wayne; special neighbours Maxine and Howard Gladney; many friends of St. Peter’s Parish, Mount Pearl where he attended faithfully and volunteered for many years. Eric retired from Canada Post with 34 years of service. He was President of 25 years of the Heritage Club (Post Office), a volunteer with the CVITP, Volunteer Tax Program.
Special thanks to Fr. Wayne Dohey for his home visits and spiritual guidance; his doctors, Dr. Darrell Hogan, Dr. Deborah Bergstrom and those in the ambulatory clinic; his community health nurse Sharon Nurse and the Palliative Care team and staff.
Cremation has taken place. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl on Tuesday from 2pm to 9pm. Funeral Mass will be at St. Peter’s Parish, on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 10:30a.m. As per the Government of Newfoundland, proof of vaccination is required to attend the visitation and the service. Pre-registration is required to attend the service as well call Barrett’s Funeral Home 364-1937 between 9am and 5pm to register. Burial to follow at St. Kevin’s Cemetery, Goulds.
No flowers by request. Donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul, St. Peter’s Parish or a charity of one’s choice.
