Ellen Noreen Bleumortier
1942-2021
It is with profound sadness the family of Ellen Noreen
Bleumortier; announce her death at the Grand Manan Hospital on
Thursday, February 4, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She
was 78. The family would like to thank the hospital staff and Extra
Mural for their compassionate care.
Ellen was born the youngest daughter to Melvin and Hilda
(Ingersoll) Brown on December 14, 1942. She grew up in Seal Cove amid
a gaggle of siblings and friends. It was there she met and married
Brian Bleumortier. Ellen was a housewife most of her life, devoting
her time to her home and her children. Friday nights were often spent
filling the countertops with her family’s favorite sweets,
while Saturdays were devoted to baking beans, and bread and
quite often, a roaster full of West Indian Chicken to share with
friends who visited Saturday evening for a game of
Rook.
Ellen held a clerical position at Grand Manan High School
from 1985 until her retirement in 2008. Her favorite part of the job
was being in the school every day to watch her grandchildren grow and
later, graduate. She loved them so very much.
After being alone for several years after the passing of her
husband in 1985, Ellen was fortunate to meet another wonderful man,
with whom she had 30 years filled with travel and laughter. David, or
Papa, as he was known by Ellen’s grandchildren, not only
cared for Ellen; he welcomed her children and her grandchildren into
his home and his heart and treated them like his very own. Vernon,
Carla and Marlene would like to thank him for loving and caring for
their mother right to the very end.
Ellen is survived by her longtime partner, David Hepditch, of
North Head, her daughters; Carla Guptill (James) of Seal Cove, Marlene
Banks (Andrew) of Grand Harbour; one son, Vernon Bleumortier (Lisa) of
Grand Harbour; three grandchildren; Kristin, Mackenzie and Ethan; one
sister Estella Harvey of Castalia; one brother, Ross Brown (Charlotte)
of Seal Cove; one brother-in-law, John Bleumortier (Roberta) of
Fredericton. Ellen also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and a large
extended family.
Ellen was predeceased by her parents Melvin (1985) and Hilda
(2004), her husband, Brian D. Bleumortier (1995), four sisters; Irma
Middleton (1982), Greta Frost (2013), Beulah Ingalls (2019), and Mae
Ingalls (2019).
In keeping with Ellen’s wishes, there will be no
visitation or funeral. Donation in her memory can be made to Charlotte
County Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB, ALS Society
of NB or to the charity of the donor’s
choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199
