Eithna Patricia Pat Carabine Tuesday November 23rd 2021

Eithna Patricia (Pat) Carabine (formerly Spiers) July 3, 1938 – November 23, 2021.
Pat was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and immigrated at the age of 18 to Toronto, Canada, spending most of her life in Toronto/Aurora and finally Newmarket, Ontario.
A beloved Mother to Kevin (Kim), Brian (Angie), Stephen (Janet), Karen (Al) and loving and oh so proud Grandmother to Aaron, Brendan (Emily), Avery (Michael), Morgan, Caleigh, Brianna, Lauren, Liam and Keara.
Predeceased by her dear brothers Brendan and Thomas. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Nora and Mary as well as her brothers Desi and Christie (Margaret), her lifelong best friend of 75 years Olive Maguiness (Gerry) and her many nieces and nephews.
Pat was very grateful for her dear friend Audrey Gebbie who supported her and her daughter Karen and granddaughter Avery throughout the last 4 months. Audrey’s love and friendship meant a great deal to Pat and it brought her much laughter and comfort during her illness. Many thanks to Patty and Mitch for their visits and phone calls and to her dear friend Tracey from Pittsburgh for the cards, books and phone calls.
A very special thank you to her granddaughter Avery for tirelessly advocating and caring for her beloved “Nan” and to Morgan for essentially doing whatever was needed when asked. She could not have done it without you both. And thank you to dear Al for morning chats and a shoulder Pat could lean on when needed.
When Pat became ill, her 4 children rallied around – thank you to Brian and Stephen for coming north to spend precious time with her and allow her the joy of having her kids together. To her sisters Nora and Mary who travelled from BC and the UK – there is nothing like the bond of sisters and Eithne was so very grateful for your presence and care. To her brothers Desi, Christie and sister-in-law Margaret – she so enjoyed the time you spent visiting with her – it meant a great deal. And to Olive – a best friend for life she cherished your friendship more than you could ever know. And to Michael -for your tireless support and love, conversations about history – thank you, as Nan would say, you’re a part of our family.
To Kevin and Kim for endless support through meals, hugs, and just being there for her – it brought her great comfort to have you both by her side.
To Brendan, Aaron and Caleigh…your visits brought Grandma so much joy and she cherished each and every moment with you.
Pat cared deeply about social justice and human rights issues and never shied away from asking tough questions of political leaders at all levels of office. She was well read and informed about history and politics here and across the globe. She loved a “good conversation” about what was happening in the world and took great pleasure in listening to her grandchildren discuss their knowledge and points of view.
Pat loved community theatre and was a member of Theatre Aurora where she produced and acted in various productions over the years. She was an avid tennis player and later in life enjoyed watching sports …especially ‘her Raptors”.
To know Pat was to be loved by her, and to be loved by her was an honour. She was an active member of AA with over 39 years of sobriety – she lived the program authentically with humility and believed in the power of carrying the message – especially to the “newcomer”. She was a living example to many people and will be remembered for her wit and kindness but most of all her capacity to love and lead by example.
Pat’s greatest love and source of pride was for her 4 children Kevin, Brian, Stephen and Karen whom she said were “the best things that ever happened to me”. She was greatly loved and will be forever missed by them.
“We are in the grace and love of an unknown power”- Pat Carabine 2021.
Celebration of life to take place on Saturday, December 11th, 11 – 3 p.m. @EVENTMRKT– 352 Doug Duncan Drive, #1, Newmarket, ON. Please note vaccination verification is required and all COVID protocols are to be followed. Please RSVP to Avery via averymawright@gmail.com no later than December 8th.
