IN LOVING MEMORY OF
EILEEN ALDA BAKER ( nee: MYHRE, PRODAEHL)
August 2, 1932 to November 11, 2021
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear, kind, loving mother, EILEEN.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Hans & Minnie Myhre, and by her husband of 34 years and father to their 9 children, Arthur Stephen Prodaehl (Steve), her son Daniel, and her husband of 25 years, Alfred W. Baker, and her stepson Bill Baker.
Eileen was also predeceased by her siblings: Lillian, Floyd, Eugene, Eunice and Howard; as well as by inlaws: Bill, Phil, Elmer, Eileen, Shirley, Tom and Arnold.
Eileen is survived by her 8 children: Donald, Barbara, Laurie, Katherine, David, Jacqueline, Jody and Stephanie, 2 stepdaughters Danita and Holly, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, her sister Dorothy, sister in law Nita and many nieces and nephews.
Eileen was born at Beaver Flat, SK., near Stewart Valley, on August 2, 1932. Her youth was spent on the farm N.E. of Wadena, SK., where she and her siblings would walk 3 miles each way to Wolverton School, then, in Paswegin until she was 14. Her sister Dorothy was a teacher, mom attended Archerwill and Neeb Sk., staying with Dorothy.. Her family then moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba where she enjoyed the north country and working at Gunston’s Photo Studio. She spoke very fondly of her siblings and parents, and what a great life they had growing up together. There she met and married Steve at age 20, in 1952, and started their family. Not long after, they moved to Saskatoon area. They eventually built an acreage that her husband Steve named ‘Alda Ranch’, where she really enjoyed country living. Eileen was very proud of her Norwegian heritage, with fond memories of making stacks of Lefsa with her Mom at the acreage. Klubb was another favourite. In 1986, sadly Steve passed away from a heart attack at the age of 56. Eventually after the death of her first husband Steve, Eileen met and married Alfred Baker in Ft. Nelson, B.C., and they enjoyed the north country. Eventually they moved to Fosston and Wadena, SK., where they lived until Alfred passed away in 2012 at the age of 83. Eileen had a very full life and many close family and friends. In 2014, Eileen decided to make Saskatoon her home where she had a full life with family, friends, socials, music, dances, and remained the scrabble champ, still, at 89 years old! She enjoyed road trips and spending time out in the countryside.
Eileen loved bringing home a new baby, loved raising her children and being a grandmother. She was always very active and kept herself fit, physically and spiritually. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, ice skating, quadding, being outdoors and daily long walks in the country. Through the years she had jobs when she had the time, such as Greyhound , Gunstons, faculty club at U of S, Ft. Nelson Drugs, Grandma Lee’s. Her hobbies included finding and finishing antique furniture, sewing, reading, baking, especially when she could share her famous bread, buns, cinnamon buns and Lefsa! She loved and enjoyed dogs and horses, old time country music, dancing and sharing her wisdom and her positive outlook on life.
Eileen’s door was always open for family and friends, and she always offered homemade foods, baking and jams. She had a big kind soft heart and was a very patient, compassionate sweet lady who was always cheering us on and loved having company. She was very loving, kind, encouraging and strong.
Eileen passed away peacefully at home in Saskatoon on November 11, 2021.
She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
