Mierins, Egils “Doc”
August 16, 1943 – March 20, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Egils “Doc” Mierins on March 20, 2021. Egils, in his 78th year, was a beloved partner and best friend of Kathryn McLaren. Loving father of Jamey (Tonya), Kathryn, and Krystina (Joseph). Special Grandpa to Freya and Fiametta. Dear son of the late Janis and Hilda Melita (née Erglis). Dear brother of John (Renate) and the late Arnis (Colleen), both of Ottawa. Also survived by niece Lisa, and nephews Jeff, John, and Arnie.
Egils was born in Latvia and immigrated to Canada as a child. After studying at the University of Ottawa and completing residencies in Toronto and Halifax, he established a practice as a rheumatologist in 1968. For many decades he supported patients throughout the Ottawa Valley and subsequent generations of medical students when he was affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Towards the end of his life, Egils fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a farm.
A private family service will be held on Wednesday March 24, 2021 followed by interment in Beechwood Cemetery. For those wishing, the service will be recorded and it will be available on the Hulse, Playfair & McGarry website later in the week at www.hpmcgarry.ca
