We are sad to announce the passing of Eelke (Eric) Hoekstra, as he passed away in his sleep at Parkview Place, in Enderby, BC at the age of 94.
Eric was born November 6, 1927 in Groningen, Netherlands. He worked on the family farm, and also trained as an accountant and electrician in the Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in April of 1956, bound for Didsbury, AB. He worked for CP Rail and eventually found himself in the Kootenays. Eric and Margaret met in Nelson and were married June 28, 1957. They then ran a dairy farm with Henry and Florence Stavast at Rosspur. Eric, Margaret and Wilmer moved to Enderby in 1961 where they bought a dairy farm on the Shuswap River. Tienus was born 4 years later. Eric and Margaret stayed on the farm until they retired to the house they built right underneath the Enderby cliffs.
Eric enjoyed farming, his miniature horses and once retired from dairy farming, he developed a passion for metal working and precision machining.
He is survived by his sister, Christiena Hoekstra-van der Veen of Noordwolde, Netherlands; sons Wilmer (Valerie) of Armstrong, BC and Tie (Wanda) of Calgary, AB and granddaughters Jessie and Haley. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret.
He will be interred in the Enderby Cemetery.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Eelke Eric Hoekstra November 25th 2021..
