Obituary
Surrounded by her family Mom at 90 years of age passed peacefully away on September 25, 2021 at St Boniface Hospital following a short illness.
Mom was born in Ethelbert at home to parents Matt and Mary Tkachuk (nee Shumka) on July 23 1931. Mom attended Vista country school (horse and buggy). Mom married Dad (Elmer) in Gilbert Plains Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Parish on February 15th 1951. Together they farmed in Gilbert Plains until they retired to Dauphin in 1984.
Mom was always busy over the years cooking with community friends at numerous weddings. In Dauphin, Mom was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Ladies League volunteering at many fund raising activities.
Our memories of Mom were many. They included the family maintenance and harvesting of an enormous country garden; the scent of fresh bread baking and cinnamon buns weekly and the preparation of and canning jars and jars of various fruit, sauerkraut and borscht. (and the tedious cleaning of the cream separator was on our job list).. She gave her girls the skills and work ethic to cook everything from scratch and her boys the appreciation of fine homemade Ukrainian dishes. She was a great role model with a pleasant demeanor and great listening skills. Moms always thought the best of people and give them the benefit of doubt. These attributes rubbed off teaching us the skills of being respectful and tolerance.
After Dad passed she remained in her home without assistance Moms independence was very important to her. We would like to thank her neighbors on Veterans Drive with for helping and friendship. When mom needed more assistance she moved to Sandy Lake Nursing Home until River Park Gardens was able to provide her with her last home, in Winnipeg. Now family could visit more often and she was able to see her great grandchildren giving her exceptional joy.
Edna was predeceased by husband Elmer of 53 years; her parents Mary and Matt Tkachuk, daughter in Law Gloria; Brothers William Tkachuk, and Sylvester Tkachuk, Brother in law Roy Styles
Edna is survived by her children Sylvia (Gerry) Jennings, Rose (Duane) Drayson, Kenneth Goran, Patricia Goran, Bruce (Brenda) Goran; sister Ann Styles, sisters in laws Maxine and Star Tkachuk

Edna’s family would like to thank the staff Sandy Lake Nursing Home and the Palliative Unit for their care and compassion. As well all the staff at River Park Gardens created a home with smiles and recreation activities that supported the soul.
