EDITH BROWN
May 18, 1921 to April 16, 2021
It is with profound sadness that the families of Edie Brown say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and sister. Mom passed away peacefully on April 16th, 2021 at Columbia View Lodge just one month short of her 100th birthday.
Mom was born in Chitenfold, Surrey, England on May 18th, 1921 and at age 7 she and her family set across the Atlantic and moved to Russell, Manitoba to start a new life. In 1939 they moved to Trail and later met and married Walter Brown. During World War II, while Dad was serving, she worked for Boeing manufacturing parts for planes. Eventually, they moved to Montrose where they raised their children and shared 45 years together until Dad’s passing in 1987. After 41 years in Montrose she moved to Penticton to be close to her sister May where the two of them enjoyed activities at the Senior’s Center, gardening and travelling. Mom lived independently in Penticton for 25 years and at the ripe old age of 97 decided it was time to return to the Kootenays to live with her daughter Bonnie and son-in-law Les Schultz in Ross Spur.
Mom was an exceptional athlete excelling in Track and Field high jump and Soft Ball and would equal the talent of any male. The TV was always on watching sports including her final days at CVL. There was not much she could not do from home renovations, fixing cars, gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and never turned down a game of crib. All of those things she would rather do instead of cooking.
Mom is survived by her children, Doug (Pat), Ernie (Gerry), Rick (Wendy), Bonnie Schultz, Gail (Rick) Turner and her sister Doris Hayton. Mom had 13 grandchildren; Danny (Jen) Brown, Alan (Tammy) Brown, Shelly (Glenn) Colwell, Christa (Adam) Deadmarsh, Darelyn (Josh) Stuart, Darren (Maggie) Brown, Nathan Brown, Patrick (Michelle) Brown, Stephen McKenzie, Melissa (Allan) Martin, Michael (Celeste) Turner, Eric Turner, Ryan (Felicia) Turner and step-grandson Curt Schultz. Mom also had 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Eva Wood, her husband Walter, her sisters May Thickett, Marge Harrison and her devoted son-in-law Les Schultz.
Our family would like to thank the 3rd floor doctors, nurses and staff at KBRH plus the staff at Columbia View Lodge for the wonderful care they provided Mom during her last 6 weeks with her family. We would also like to thank BC Ambulance Service, Paramedics and Home Support for their care over the last few years.
Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements. As an expression of sympathy, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
We saw you getting tired and it was time to say goodbye to a very special lady. You taught us all so much and we were blessed to have you in our lives. Mom, as we bid you farewell know you were loved, you will be missed and you will be forever in our hearts.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Edith Brown April 16th 2021..
