Earle Wilfrid Trouten Wednesday August 4th 2021

Earle W. Trouten
September 22, 1930 to August 4, 2021
After a long and full life, Earle W. Trouten of Ottawa, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, in his 91st year. He had been in declining health for the past few years.
Predeceased by his parents James and Ethel, his brothers Vernon, Ralph, and Donald, and two nephews, Douglas and Daniel, he leaves behind Marion, his beloved best friend and wife of 68 years, five children: Judy (Dennis), Deb, Jim (Debbie), Dave (Virginia) and Jack (Kim); grandchildren: Jennifer (Sam), Michael, Joshua, Katie, Chelsea, Nathan and Ben and great granddaughter: Rose. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard and Holly Green, several nieces and nephews and their families.
Earle was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario during the start of the Great Depression. At age nine, he had his first job, delivering the Toronto Telegram which he said was great training for a future businessman. He graduated from Delta Collegiate Institute in 1949. He was a leader in his church youth group and studied for a few years at Central Baptist Seminary in Toronto. In 1950, he met Marion Green and they married in April 1953.
Never afraid to take risks, they relocated to Arizona in 1958 where Earle began his successful career as a sales manager and later, regional sales manager, eventually relocating to California. They returned to Canada in the late 60s where he began his entrepreneurial career as a Canadian Tire store owner. His first store was in Kenora, Ontario, followed by Moncton, New Brunswick, and then Ottawa where he owned the CTC on Kent Street and later the store in Orleans. During this time, he also co-founded a retail security firm, a transmission rebuilding company and invested in several other business ventures. He served as a director on the boards of Union Mission, Compassion Canada, Bethany College, Roberts Wesleyan College, Trinity Western University, and Queensway-Carleton Hospital. Earle retired in 1995 after a 27-year career with Canadian Tire. In retirement, he and Marion enjoyed their Florida home, travelled the globe, and cherished their visits with children, grandchildren, and family reunions at the beloved cottage on the Big Rideau Lake.
He was a strong patriarch, protector and provider for his family, a loving husband, father, a faithful friend, and a generous, charitable man with the highest of integrity in business and family life. He lived life to its fullest, sustained by his Christian faith which provided assurance and hope amid life’s challenges. He used the resources he’d been blessed with to better the lives of others, many of whom he never met, particularly in Africa, Haiti, and the many communities in which he lived and worked.
He and Marion provided funding for a 25-bed mission hospital in Dessalines, Haiti in 1984 and later a nurses residence named Marion House. Deeply committed to education, he and Marion funded the library at Kingswood College in Sus, New Brunswick, and provided scholarships for many students at several liberal arts colleges across Canada. They also funded schools, clinics, hospitals, Bible translations, mission aviation, and well drilling equipment in several countries. Throughout his life, he provided support to missionaries and indigenous workers on most continents.
Earle was a man of great humour who enjoyed singing, Sousa marching band music, playing the organ, cottaging, fifth wheeling, hockey, reading biographies and history. Though our hearts ache and we miss his physical presence, we will remember his humour, his wisdom, and his abiding love, until we meet again. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
His family is grateful for the care he received from the staff at Amica Westboro Park, who have provided a warm and welcoming home for he and Marion for the past few years.
A private family interment will be held. If you wish, donations may be made to one of Earle’s favourite charities: Compassion Canada, the Ottawa Mission, Galcom International, or Mission Aviation Fellowship of Canada.
Arrangements entrusted to Hulse, Playfair & McGarry. Interment in Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
