E. Douglas « Doug » Calder
1942-2021
The unexpected passing of Earle Douglas
« Doug » Calder occurred at his residence in Fairhaven NB on
February 1, 2021. Born on March 10, 1942 in Eastport, Maine, he was a
son of the late Earle and Sara « Sadie »(Parks) Calder. A
loving brother, uncle, great-uncle and friend, Doug is survived by his
two sisters: Sharon (Michael) Hartford of Lords Cove, NB and
Jackie (Brian) Mitchell of Fairhaven NB; his nieces and nephews:
Gordon Weatherby of O’Leary PE, Jill (Norman) Conley of Fairhaven and
Joey (Mandy) Mitchell of Utopia; good friend, Cathy Ledda and several
great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by
his infant brother, Earle and niece, Sara Jane
Weatherby.
Doug attended and graduated from the school of Deaf and Hard
of Hearing in Halifax. He overcame his hearing disability and had a
successful career at the Connors Brothers Deer Island Herring Factory
and retired from the Department of Transportation Road Crew. In his
youth Doug was an avid outdoorsman and loved to go hunting and
fishing. He was a member of the Fairhaven Baptist
Church.
Doug’s family would like to send a special heartfelt thank
you to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Interrupters that have helped him
at all various his appointments, the Deer Island Ambulance EMTs, the
Extra Mural Program Staff and Dr. Pinder and the Staff of the Deer
Island Health Centre for their kindness and support during this
difficult time.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Due to the COVID-19
restrictions all Services for Doug will be private. Interment will
take place in Fairhaven Community
Cemetery.
