Obituary of Duncan Chisholm
James « Duncan » Chisholm age 84 of St. Andrews passed away peacefully April 10, 2021 in Highcrest Nursing Home, Sherbrooke, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late John Colin and Mary Belle Chisholm of Pomquet River and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his siblings: Donald, Margaret, Isabelle, Betty, Chrissy, Terry, Helen, Anna and Elizabeth in her infancy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Kathleen (Blackwood) and his three children; Michael (Michelle), Powell River, BC; Paul (Beth), Calgary, AB; Allison (Mark) Kelly, St. Andrews and eight grandchildren, Jake and Hailey (Michael), Kaleb, Summer and Duncan (Paul), Kyle, Kaitlan and Colby (Allison). He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
He worked tirelessly over his years and overcame many adversities with resilience and strong determination.
Duncan was well-known as a strong community member organizing many projects over the years. He was proud to have been a volunteer firefighter and member of the Knights of Columbus, Chapter 1105. He also was involved with Crime Prevention, Seniors Getting Involved, the Oak & Owl Club and Whirlaway Square Dancers . His favourite pastimes were curling, card plays, making wine and gifting it away, and recruiting people to help in his many community projects. If you knew Duncan you would inevitably be « volun-told » how you could best contribute to a cause. Never tell him something couldn’t be done as he would strive to prove you wrong!
Special thanks go out to so many people for their care and support over his years of illness, especially Al Masters, Bill MacNeil, Kenny Stewart and Donna DeYoung.
