Dr. David Garth Muttart
1939-2021
Dr. David Garth
Muttart (June 10, 1939 – April 30, 2021) died peacefully at home on
Friday, April 30, 2021 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, with family by his
side. He left behind his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou (Dewar);
his son, Greg and daughter-in-law Shelley; his daughter, Jennifer
(Melanson) and son-in-law, Tim and his four treasured grandchildren,
Jake, Tess, Sophie and Olivia. He also leaves behind his brother,
Peter and family. Dave was predeceased by his parents,
Reginald and Miriam Muttart, of Kentville, NS and his father and
mother-in-law, Walter and Beulah Dewar of Hantsport, NS.
Dave dedicated his professional life to education. He earned
his BA and BED at Acadia University, his MED and his PhD at the
University of Alberta in Calgary and Edmonton. He taught
high school, and worked as a professor in the Education Department at
Acadia where he later served as Dean for eight years. Dad’s
family was his priority. His favourite place was Harris Lake
and he enjoyed trips to Daytona Beach and the Rockies. Golf was one of
Dave’s passions – as the NS Junior and Senior golf
champion a few times over, he loved the competitive play with his many
friends, colleagues and family. Our Dad died a loved and respected
man. His influence on the careers, decisions and lives of so
many will be one of his greatest legacies. When you enjoy the view of
the mist over a lake, the smell of the fairway in the morning, the
taste of a cold rum and coke or a fresh lobster, remember the wisdom
and fun Dave Muttart brought to your life, and how he made it better
to be here. We extend thanks to the many professionals who assisted
with Dad’s health over the years, especially Dr. Howard
Wightman whose friendship and care of Dad brought us all great
comfort. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on
Saturday, October 16, 2021 in the Wolfville United Baptist Church,
Reverend Doctor Scott Kindred-Barnes officiating. Interment will take
place in the Gaspereau Cemetery. In accordance with the Nova Scotia
Proof of Full Vaccination Policy, proof of full vaccination will be
required to attend the service and interment. In lieu of flowers,
donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada would
be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the
White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
