Dr. Amar Pal passed away
peacefully at his home in Moncton on September 28, 2021 surrounded by
his family. He is survived by his wife Eva, sons Michael and David,
daughters-in-law Nyranne and Nancy, and his three grandchildren as
well as six siblings and his many nieces and nephews and their
families.
He was born in Arambagh, West
Bengal, India in 1939, the eldest son of 11 children. He received his
medical degree at Calcutta Medical College after which he moved to
England where he obtained his Fellowship in the Royal College of
Surgeons and completed training in General Surgery. He met his wife
Eva in Nottingham and they moved to Canada in 1975. He completed his
residency in Otolaryngology at Dalhousie University and obtained his
Canadian Fellowship before establishing his practice in Moncton in
1982. His most cherished memories as a physician were of the children
he treated.
He was a devoted and loving
husband, father, and grandfather. He was the first member of his
family to move to North America, paving the way there for his nephews
and nieces. He maintained close relationships with his large extended
family despite the distance and was a generous and welcoming host. An
avid reader and math and finance enthusiast, he loved to cook, grow
roses and listen to classical music. He was always dedicated to the
education and success of the younger generation of friends and
family.
A special thank you to all the
nurses and physicians involved with his care and to the wonderful
caregivers who enabled him to spend his last days at
home.
A small private gathering has
been held.
