Dorothy Sullivan
The family announces with sorrow her death on September 13th, 2021 at the age of 87 years. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family members and her constant furry companion Oakley who never left her side. Dorothy is survived by her children, Carolyn, Frank, and Christine (Mark), her grandchildren, Jesse, Shawn, Liam, Nathan, Cameron, and Céleste. She is also survived by her brothers Gillis (Maxine), Jerry (Linda), sisters Mona (Nino) and Doreen, sisters-in-law Lucille, Marie, Pam, Patricia, and Kay as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Jerry, her son Brian, her parents Inez and Francis, and numerous siblings and in-laws.
Dorothy was born in Barachois, Québec, and lived there until she was 16 when she moved to Montreal. There she worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoyed walking around the city, especially Mount Royal. Sundays were for enjoying a motorcycle ride with friends. In 1956 she was married and in 1970, she moved to Longlac with her family. Known as ‘the insurance lady’ for so many years, Dorothy enjoyed her work as a broker with Berday insurance and then Canada Brokerlink. Dot enjoyed being an active member of St John the Baptist Church helping out whenever she could and especially singing in the choir. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her grandchildren as well as vacationing with her family, especially ‘down home’ in Gaspé. As much as Dot enjoyed the summer weather, no matter how hot the temperature, her equally favorite season was ‘hunting season’. She enjoyed her very rigid schedule that she followed and most of us knew not to expect her to be home for that week in October. Lunch in the bush and ‘the boil’ were events she wouldn’t miss.
Dorothy would never miss a party. She could usually be found wherever the music was, belting out the songs. If music couldn’t be found, she was most likely around the babies or the children. There was not a child that wouldn’t laugh for Dot. Those closest to her know that she was an incredibly strong woman with a giving heart of gold. Her catch phrase was always ‘I’m fine’ and her infectious laugh would lighten up any mood!
We the family would like to thank the people who visited, sent messages, and provided many forms of support. Thanks to Doctor Anthes, her very attentive and caring oncologist and a heartfelt thank you to Cathy King who provided the most compassionate care to both Dorothy and us right until the end. Finally to Father Gerard, for his comforting visits at a moment’s notice. We’ve walked among angels and now our newest angel watches over us.
As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, the attendance is restricted to 60 people at St. John the Baptist Church and a record of attendance must be maintained. Wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet is mandatory for those attending.
