Dorothy O’Hara
April 28, 1929 – July 3, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy O’Hara (nee Southall) on July 3, 2021 at the Rosewood Care Home. Dorothy was born in Wavertree England to William and Elenor Southall where she was raised with her 4 brothers and 1 sister.
After getting married, Dorothy and Brian immigrated to Canada, living first in Edmonton, then Calgary before settling in Fruitvale where she raised 4 sons. During the years that Mum lived in Fruitvale she made many friends and was known for her amazing baking and knitting. She will be missed for her winning smile and infectious humour. Her courage and determination to « just get on with it » during life’s many challenges were both a tribute to her British ancestry and an inspiration for others.
While Mom often reminisced fondly about her childhood years with her beloved twin sister Gwen, growing up together in postwar England, she never ceased to appreciate the majesty of the mountains surrounding her in the Kootenays. Mom loved to share the beauty of B.C. with visiting family members from abroad.
Dorothy is survived by her 4 sons John, Brian Jr (Vicki), Paul (Janine) and Mark, Her sister Gwen Roberts (Vin), 6 grandchildren, Jeremy, Ashley, Daniel, Jordan, Jaima and Kasey and 6 great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Brooklynn, Rylan, Everly, Grayson and Holstyn.
The family would like to thank Dr. Libby McCoid, Beaver Valley Clinic and the kind and compassionate staff at Rosewood Village.
As per Dorothy’s request there will be no service. Andreas Schmitz of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Dorothy O’Hara July 3rd 2021..
