In loving memory of Dorothy June Hill who passed away peacefully on March 17th, 2021 at Health Sciences North at the age of 90. June was born June 25, 1930 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, daughter of the late Lewis and Margaret (Spottiswood) Griffin. Predeceased by her siblings, Donald, Russell and David. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years Gerald. Loving mother of Deborah, (Peter Bertuzzi, predeceased), Alan (Wendy), Kenneth, (Bill Marr, predeceased), Nancy (Fred Engstrom) and Steven (Jo-Ann). Loving grandmother of Perry, Devon and Sean Hill, Mary, Steven and Heather Engstrom, Tyler Bertuzzi and Matthew Hill & Victoria (Hill) Pilot. She will be sadly missed by her brother Gordon of Enderby, B.C., sister-in-law, Gail Hill of Vancouver and many close friends, nieces and nephews. June met her husband at the Burroughs Falls Dance Hall in Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec. They were married on February 14, 1953. She was a homemaker during the early years making her children’s clothing. Upon moving to Sudbury from St. Bruno, Quebec in 1971 she started working at the Sears Catalogue Office. When Sears opened their store in 1975, she went to work in the Unit Buying Control office until she retired in 1989. She will be fondly remembered as, « Hurricane June, » as she was in constant motion. She was an avid walker and a great dancer and would light up when she was dancing. She would see her kids dancing in their bedrooms, to the latest hits, and would happily join in. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Sudbury, a member of Algoma Chapter #139 Order of the Eastern Star and Legion Branch 76 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed contributing to church functions. She loved her gardens and spent a lot of time tending to them in the summer. She was really good at crossword and jigsaw puzzles. A big thank you to the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at HSN for all their special care for Mum as well as all the great caregivers at Pioneer Manor and the staff at Northeast Cancer Centre Health Science North. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of June’s life will be held later when we can safely gather. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, 73 Larch Street, Sudbury, ON P3E 1B8 or to the Northern Cancer Foundation 41 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury, ON P3E 5J1. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery, Stanstead, Quebec. For donations or messages of condolence visit www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com
