Passed away at Portal Village on Thursday, August 19th, in her 95th year. Predeceased by her loving husband Stanley and her sister Mary. She will be deeply missed by her sisters Shirley, Ethel and Isabel. Cherished mother to Greg Burkett (Lee Anne) and Debbie Warbick (Mike); grandmother to Jeff (Jennifer), John (Lindsay), Sara and Rob (Shelly); great grandmother of Hillary, Kendra, Emma, Landon, Logan, Jared, Alexander and Johnathan; great-great grandmother to Jack and Hudson.
Dorothy grew up on a farm in Harriston and moved to Ottawa to work for the war department during WW2. Later she moved to Toronto and she worked in the stock exchange where she met Stanley Burkett. After they married they traveled to Newfoundland, Winnipeg, Fort William and Port Arthur working construction. They finally settled in Lowbanks where they raised their two children. They enjoyed dances, travel and golfing.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will take place Saturday September 4, 2021. In memory of Dorothy, donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Women’s Place of South Niagara would be appreciated by her family. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Minor Funeral Home, 315 Broad Street, Dunnville, Ontario N1A 1G4.
