Doris Timmons, 97, wife of the late William “Pete” Timmons, South Bar, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Doris was the daughter of the late Archibald and Helen Ivany. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mom did everything in life with a sense of determination, dedication and love. From working at the Department of National Defense in her younger years to working at the MacGillivray Guest Home in her later years, all was done with a sense of pride. But there was nothing that made her more proud than her family. Family gatherings were especially memorable when a pot of tea was made and a plate of sweets was set out.
Mom believed in helping others and showing kindness. She volunteered with various causes including many years with St. John Ambulance and Holy Redeemer CWL. A strong faith in God helped shape the person she was.
Doris is survived by her sons, Paul (Margo), David (Diana) and Brian (Paulette) and daughters, Joan and Sandy (Larry) Fisher. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Erin, Mark, Meghan, David Kirk, Alicsa, Susan, Dwayne, Robert, Scott and Jenna. She has 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that she cherished. Doris is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marge Ivany.
Sincere gratitude is extended to Dr. Greg Myatt for his care over the years, Cape Breton County Homecare workers and the staff of ER, 3A and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
A private family service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.
