Donald John Matheson passed away on Wednesday May 26 2021 at age 76. Beloved husband of his soulmate and wife of 53 years, Suzanne (Insley). Cherished father of Jason (Ginette) and Aaron (Deirdre). Adored grandfather of Zachary, Lucas, Alyssa and Chloe. Admired brother of Sandra and Eric (Marcia).
Don was born in Cape Breton and raised in P.E.I and Trenton, ON. He was a proud firefighter of Kingston Fire and Rescue for 27 years. After retirement, he continually found new projects and ventures that kept him interested, and always had the right tool for any job.
Don was generous with his time: if anyone was in need, he was first to assist. He had a big heart and loved chatting with people. He was truly interested in the lives of people he met, and never forgot a name or a face. He loved his weekly bowling leagues: he even went when he wasn’t bowling just to hang out with everyone.
Don loved spending time with his grandchildren: whether it was talking about sports, going on a Tim’s run, or making them laugh. Don touched the lives of so many. His passing is a huge loss to all who knew him and loved him.
Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and Kingston Professional Firefighters Association.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
