Donald Hiscock Saturday April 10th 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don Hiscock, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Don was predeceased by his parents Louis and Lois Hiscock, brother Ken Hiscock, brothers-in-law Lyle Parker and Terry MacKinnon.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Marlene, daughters Leaette Hiscock (Del McLean), Loreen (Darryl) Alexander, son Brett (Terrie) Hiscock and grandchildren Queridan Hiscock, Brianna Hiscock and Jaden Hiscock sister Lynda Parker, sister in-law Judy MacKinnon, brother in-law Milton Wheler (Barb) as well as numerous extended family.
Don was born in Winnipeg on December 14th, 1938 and was raised in the Swan River area. He joined the RCMP in 1957. His first posting was to Weyburn Saskatchewan where he met his wife, Marlene. Don spent 25 years as an RCMP Officer and retired to take a role with Transport Canada as an Aviation Enforcement Officer, where he was able to blend his love for aviation with his enforcement background and training. He spent 15 years with Transport Canada before re-retiring for good.
Don’s love for the outdoors began when he was young, he would bring home any and all creatures that he could catch to be his pets. This continued throughout his life as he brought home rabbits, birds, bats, pigs, dogs, and cats to join Marlene and the kids. Those that knew Don are well aware that he had a story or joke for every occasion and luckily for those of us that had short memories, he would tell them over and over. Don had a special group of friends that he was able to join for a week each year to go hunting. This amazing group of friends met every year for over 40 years to share their love of the outdoors and to catch up on each others lives. Don’s second love was aviation. He earned his Private Pilots Licence in 1973 and this was followed by the acquisition of three separate aircraft including a Stinson 108-3, a Citabria 7-GCBC and lastly a Cessna 170B. He took great pleasure in sharing his interests with his family; this included numerous camping, fishing, and hunting adventures. His love of the outdoors is alive and well in his children and grandchildren. Don spent a lot of time “tinkering”. He loved to help his friends by fixing or “fabbing” anything they needed. He always had some kind of project on the go. As he started to age, his projects moved from the shop to his computer room where he built anything and everything computer related.
Don was active in the communities he lived in. He helped to build curling rinks, rodeo grounds, and was a member of a group that brought artificial ice into an arena. He spent a decade as a member of the Kinsmen Club, he volunteered as a Cub/Beaver Scout leader, and he even volunteered as the tow plane pilot for the Air Cadet glider.
Don was a quiet man when it came to talking about family, but he wore his heart on his sleeve. You could see instantly the pride he had in his grandchildren whenever they were around, or upon hearing of their adventures and accomplishments. His grandchildren were especially comforting to him in his final days as the Covid restrictions made it difficult for people to spend time with him. He had a picture of the grandchildren on his bed, and they watched over him while others could not.
Special thanks to Don’s caregivers at the Health Sciences Center where he spent his final days surrounded by his family. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare or a charity of your choice in his memory would be appreciated.
Due to Covid restrictions, a family only memorial will be held at Seasons Funeral Chapel on April 24th, 2021. The service will be recorded and posted, after the service.
A Celebration of life will be scheduled when restrictions are lifted, and we can gather to share our memories of Don in the way that he wanted.
