It is with heavy hearts, family and friends announce the passing of Donald Dozzi on December 5, 2021, at the Trail Hospital, the same hospital he was born at in 1946. Don passed away from prostate cancer which he bravely fought for years. He graciously accepted his plight and was courageous until the end.
Don was the youngest son of four, born to Lilia and Odilio Dozzi. He lived all but the first two years of his life in Nelson. He attended St Josephs’ Catholic School, Trafalgar Junior Secondary, and LV Rogers Secondary. After graduation Don furthered his education earning his BA from Notre Dame University.
After university he was employed by Service Canada as an employment counsellor. He retired after 34 years of employ. Don was always so pleased if he could place a client in a job or training, “the perfect fit”. His personal interest and hobbies circled around bowling, he played in two leagues and won many trophies.
For many years Don volunteered as a basketball referee. He ran up and down many courts all over the East & West Kootenays. He would drop everything to ref a game and was honoured to do so.
People were very important to Don. He knew many folk and chatted with them freely. He was well liked and he returned these sentiments.
In the last couple of years of his life, he’d met with his friends for coffee at the mall, where he’d have his hellos to everyone walking by.
Don was generous to a fault, always extending a helping hand to friends and family. His generosity overflowed into many local charities, in which he delighted in handing out the cheques personally.
Don is predeceased by his parents Lilia & Odilio, his brother Argillo, sisters Clara & Carol, eight nieces & nephews, thirteen great nieces & nephews, plus his support group of long-standing friends: Vivian, Bess, Patsy, Sylvia, & Bobbi. Don will be missed beyond measure.
Donations can be made to the Kootenay Lake Hospital or the BC Cancer Society. Memorial pending.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Donald Dozzi August 11 1946
