Dick Launspach
1952-2021
On the afternoon of August 1st at 4:14, Dick Launspach peacefully passed away surrounded by his family, at the age of 68. He was a loving husband to Deborah (née King) for 48 years, and father to Marcus, Jennifer (Mike Kupfer) and Robin-Lynn (Kevin Cornelius). He will be missed and forever loved by his grandkids: Matthew and Justin Launspach; Macey, Benjamin, Aleigha, Kyle, Ryan and Andrew Kupfer; Tyler, Avery-Anna and Carter Cornelius. Dick was very proud of his family. He will also be missed by his large extended family and, of course, all our pets.
Dick was born in Amsterdam on November 10th, 1952 and came to Canada with his parents, Dirk and Joanna, and his brother John, May 31, 1958, when he was five years old. His family settled in Brampton. While growing up, Dick enjoyed playing bass guitar in a band, competing in square dancing, and participating in Scouts. He was a Scout, Venture and Rover before becoming Leader with 3rd Brampton and 1st Mono Mills.
Dick and Deb first met in grade 1. But it wasn’t until the end of high school that they began their relationship, which lasted over 50 years. Once married, in 1973, they moved between Brampton and Acton before settling in Mono Mills. They travelled around the world exploring places, including Holland, Florida, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, the Azores, Italy, France, England, Brazil and places across Canada.
Dick began working as a surveyor and started Rymark Surveys Ltd. with his brother in 1975. He also worked for Pilen Construction as an estimator for sewer and water mains. Eventually, he and a few partners went on to establish their own companies, first Pentad Construction, then Trillium Infrastructure Ltd. He was looking forward to retiring at the end of this year.
Dick loved his job and all the people who became an extended family to him. He listened to people’s problems and issues, and helped if he could. He loved the stories that everyone shared. Dick loved racing and was owner of a Limited Late Model race car that won the Championship in 2011 at Sunset Speedway. His team also won the OSCAAR Super Late Model Championship in 2015. Cheers to #17!!
Dick’s heart was not well. This issue affected his liver, lungs and kidneys. For all you people out there that don’t go to the doctor for one reason or another, let this be a wake-up call for you. Don’t smoke and make sure your body gets the nourishment it needs daily.
Thank you to the staff at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Etobicoke General and especially to the amazing nurses and doctors at Toronto General Hospital in the CICU. Donations, in memory of Dick, can be made to the Orangeville Salvation Army, Orangeville SPCA or Headwaters Health Care Centre.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Dods and McNair Funeral Home in Orangeville, on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 11-2.
