Dexter Joseph Frost 2021

With great sadness, we announce the death of Dexter Joseph Frost, of Barryville, which occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on December 31st, 2020, after a fall at his home led to a variety of health complications.
He was 70. Born in Barryville, NB, he was the son of the late Robert and Rita (Russell) Frost.
Despite his failing physical health, it may be more appropriate to say he died of a broken heart. In August 2020, he was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Deborah Lee Ann (Debby) Frost, a loss he struggled to comprehend right up to his dying day.
He is survived by his son, Dale Frost, of Barryville; and his daughter, Susan Frost, her fiancé Edwin Somers, and his infant grandson, Winston Somers, all of Miramichi.
He also leaves behind two sisters, Roberta Morrison (Gerry), of Miramichi, and Barbara Anderson (Edward), of Barryville, as well as a beloved sister-in-law, Rose May Frost, of Oak Point.
Besides his parents and wife, he is pre-deceased by brothers Carl and Lorne (infant).
Those who knew Dexter will remember him as a thoughtful, knowledgeable man – someone who had a wide array of talents and was handy to have around if you were working on a project.
For years, he was a welder with Trac Industries Ltd. in Miramichi – a position that allowed him to show off his skills as a creative metalsmith, one that could figure out solutions to complex problems.
But he was no slouch when it came to construction either, building a camp and a cottage over the years, and helping with countless home renovation and improvement projects for anyone he knew.
When he built his Oak Point cottage in 1986, he wanted a spiral staircase to reach the second floor. So, he soaked a piece of wood in water in front of the cottage, visiting each day to bend the wood a little more until it suited his needs.
He could make or fix nearly anything if he put his mind to it. In his spare time, he enjoyed whittling and painting and feeding squirrels, his gentle nature soothing their fears until they climbed right into the palm of his hand to get a peanut.
You could often find him in his truck, idling back the Winston Road, a backwoods path located in Oak Point, to check on the partridge, deer, moose and bears – whatever was moving.
When young children were around, he was known to pull a few packages of Smarties from his pockets to make the kids smile.
He was a fine cribbage player, knew his way around a boat, and he enjoyed building bonfires down by the shore – particularly when a crowd was around. He and Debby hosted many corn boils on warm summer evenings, the kinds of gatherings where anyone was welcomed.
He loved spending time with family and cherished the short time he had with his grandson, Winston, holding him as he relaxed in the cottage or the camp.
There will be no visitation or funeral at Dexter’s request. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dexter’s honour may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Messages of condolence can be sent through the funeral home website www.bellsmeadows.com
