We are devastated to announce that the world lost a true humanitarian. Dennis Paul Benjamin Edwards passed away on October 15, 2021 after a brief illness at the age of 52. He was a cherished husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
Dennis was born on February 24, 1969 in Newmarket, Ontario to Leokadie (Lottie) Kunkel and Alan John (A.J.) Edwards. He was the youngest of five siblings: Margaret (Maggie), Patricia (Trisha), Alan Christopher (Chris), and Jennifer (Jenny). Dennis and Jenny have many shared adventures from their childhood, being closest in age, but he loved all of his siblings and had very close relationships with each of them. After living in many different cities in Ontario and Manitoba, he eventually settled in Toronto with his wife, Christina Varga, where he worked as a manager of a document production group for a law firm for 17 years. Christina and Dennis both shared a love of travel and have had many memorable trips, notably around South Africa, Iceland, and the United States. Most recently, they have been spending much of their time at their cottage, where they have a tight community of friends.
Dennis had a keen wit and inserted his unique dry sense of humor at every opportunity. His deadpan delivery was only belied by his wry half smile and the twinkle in his eye. Even during the last week he was in the hospital, he caught the nurses off guard with his sense of humour. Dennis made others feel at ease even though he was in obvious discomfort. He was a great storyteller who could find the right anecdote to lighten a mood and his infectious laughter put everyone in good spirits.
Undeniably, Dennis cared deeply about those around him and was always willing to lend a hand or an ear to anyone who needed it. He never really knew his impact upon others because he never did anything for anyone for the sake of recognition. For this very reason he was quite elusive on social media. His circle of friends is both large and varied and he enjoyed hosting parties on a regular basis. He always saw people for their inner qualities and recognized the good in everyone.
All of his life, Dennis was a huge fan of the outdoors, often venturing on solo camping trips to Algonquin Park where he found solace in the quiet and the air. He was also an avid photographer and reader, because through both of these hobbies he always enjoyed seeking and finding different perspectives on life.
Dennis made every effort to be the best brother, uncle and husband he could be. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 19 years, Christina Varga. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The University of Ottawa Heart Institute or to The Friends of Algonquian Park. A Celebration of Life in honour of Dennis will be held next summer, 2022. Tributes, condolences and donations can be made online at www.zohrfuneralhome.com
