Dennis Harry Hirons January 10th 2021

DENNIS HARRY HIRONS
Born – January 10, 1948
Passed Away – January 10, 2021
Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Irene Hirons, sister Diane Hirons and brother Wayne Hirons all from Kitchener, ON. Survived by his son Rick and daughter Cindy of Ontario, his brother Garry (and Heidi) Hirons of Kitchener, ON, brother Terry (and Susan) Hirons of Glade, BC, sister Heather Hirons of Kitchener, ON and many nieces and nephews in Ontario and BC and great-nieces and great-nephews in Ontario and BC.
Born in Kitchener, ON, Dennis started work in construction installing and refinishing floors for Vick Sellners Flooring company in Kitchener. He moved with his friends Lloyd Henderson, Mike and Joe Kraftchick to Whistler, BC. They then moved to Rossland where their Trend construction company built among many other establishments, the Ram’s Head Inn and the Uplander Hotel. They also had the opportunity to work on a salmon fishing boat where Dennis enjoyed cooking for the crew among other jobs.
He was a perfectionist in all he did, as a carpenter, painter, artist and sculptor.
Although injured in construction accidents he remained active in Rossland at the Legion and the Eagles where he often ran dart tournaments and pool tournaments. He was well known and liked by all he met.
He was a fervent supporter of his Gunners, the Arsenal football (soccer) team as well as the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team, New York Rangers hockey team and Seattle Seahawks football team. He enjoyed both cheering on their victories and booing their losses.
Denny loved birdwatching and was a wealth of knowledge about the local wildlife, participating in the annual bird count for many years when he lived in Rossland. He enjoyed many hours in Glade watching the osprey nest in the yard by the river where he lived with his brother. Rarely was he stumped naming a bird that showed up there on the river.
Dennis loved all music and frequently would burst into song with a smile and a giggle. Among many others, some favourites were ‘Catch the Wind,’ The Everly Brothers, Bob Dylan and pretty much all the hits from the 60s and 70s. Anytime he would say, ‘Oh Lord’ in pain, it would be continued on with a rendition of Janis Joplin’s ‘Mercedes Benz.’
Dennis had a positive and cheerful outlook on life that brought joy to all he knew. He fought cancer with the same optimism throughout his last two years when he lived with his brother and wife, Terry and Susan in Glade, BC. He lost his battle suddenly at the end and it was a terrible shock to us all.
No funeral will be held at his request. Andreas Schmitz of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at 565 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 4J4 or online at www.cancer.ca
